Sidney F——- Crosby
NEW YORK — A fan is heard shouting at the young forward, loud enough to elicit laughter from the surrounding sections.
The kid hears nothing, isolated within the playing surface as he is, so that by the time the laughter subsides, the kid already has spun around the blue jersey looking to contain him and passed the puck to his defenseman, now heading toward the net.
Suddenly, a shot. The kid already has position, waiting, with the same blue jersey on his back now, attempting to control his stick. The goaltender, too, is out, aggressive — he knows who is on the ice and he is ready — but he cannot withstand one, two, then three attempts at the puck from the kid.
The red light comes on, and a groan goes up from the crowd.
Sidney Crosby has just scored, at 15:59 of the second period, extending the Penguins’ lead over the hometown Rangers to a seemingly insurmountable 2-0.
But on this evening, in New York City, on Broadway, only one thing mattered: a goaltender standing up to the chosen one with the game in the balance.
This article pretty much sums up why I hate Sidney Crosby and have zero tolerance for the NHLs bullshit when it comes to him. Once again, there is no other hockey player in the NHL worth knowing about besides Sidney Crosby. The NHLs marketing departments only strategy is to shove Sidney Crosby down everyones throats until little brown Crosby pucks are flying out of everyones ass.
I wonder if other players in the league resent him. Lets face it, Crosby is a fantastic hockey player. But is he the “chosen one”? Hell no. He hasn’t done anything to warrant being even remotely compared to Wayne Gretzky, yet some people are so ignorant to think that he can be and that he actually is the great one. Crosby is no more than an average superstar, he’s a great player but is no different from the likes of Ilya Kovalchuk, Jason Spezza, Jarome Iginla, or Marian Gaborik. The simple fact is Sidney Crosby isn’t even the best player onh is team, nevermind the best player in the league. It was Evgeni Malkin who carried the Pens into the playoffs last year and along with Marian Hossa brought them to the finals. All Crosby managed to do was make a mockery of the game flopping all over the ice.
The best player in the NHL is Alex Ovechkin, hands down. Its not debatable either, compare the stats, Crosby has never scored more than 40 goals. Also Ovechkin is one of the most physical players in the NHL while Crosby is regarded as a whiner who frequently embellishes hits and trips to draw attention and draw penalties.
I realize that it isn’t Crosbys fault that the NHL has used him in the manner they have and that writers unfairly compare him to Wayne Gretzky, but at the same time it cant keep me from hating the guy as a hockey player.
