Arsenal News: Scum 5, Arsenal 1
It was a tough outing for us last night at Shite Hart Lane. Losing to the Scum and that too by that scoreline.. well we are just not used to it. I know i wouldn't be going too far when I say that it was a bit nightmarish !
I won't go into details here and couldn't really be arsed to look into the papers orgasming over the Scums performance while trashing ours. You could just feel the pent up frustration that the Lily White Shite had pent up over the last decade, almost. It just all came gushing forth like a volcano all in one clinical performance.
Without making any excuses for us , you would have to say that they obviously had it all to play for, it was their only chance of silverware, like Berbatov said yesterday it was their "
game of the season", and they did not disguise that too much on the pitch. While there is mixed opinion of how important the game or the indeed the Carling Cup is for us, or how high on the list of priorities it is or how we could sacrifice it, it still is important, and well losing to the scum just hits you hard, you would have to say.
I still did not lose hope when their third went in , but after the fourth it was nothing but a face saving exercise for us. We were chasing the game almost right from the off, while they sat back and defended and continued to hit us on the break . They scored off maybe half of their chances they created, clinical indeed!
We had a much more experienced team than usual put out for this one. Our central defence pairing though, were just not doing the business on the night, just goes to show how much we miss Kolo Toure. When Adebayor and Eduardo were brought on, we were looking more menacing. Maybe it would have been a little closer if they were brought on earlier, but that's just speculation. Some how you feel that we did not have anyone to take charge and really lead the fight back.
I'm taking this one very badly, I expected a win here, and needless to say I'm gutted. We have a record against the Scum that we are proud of and something that has to be preserved. It's just one game and cannot by any stretch of the imagination wipe away years of domination over the Scummers. It's not the end by any means. We are still alive in 3 competitions, and they are much higher in the priority list than the Carling Cup!
You can find Arsene's post match reaction here , the pick of the lot however is here-
"It is part of the learning process. When you are a footballer you have to deal with disappointments. That is part of it all. You have to take that on board. When you a footballer you lose games, it is how you respond and deal with that."
While we do expect a reaction from the team, you would have to say that this game doesn't really question the teams ability. I know it sounds a bit ludicrous after glancing at the scoreline, but I'm convinced that we just had a very bad day and we were up against a buoyant Totscum side who were baying for blood for so long that they did not have to be asked twice to take their chance when it came. I for one will try hard to forget this night, but I'm sure I won't and I'm sure most of yal won't too, all for the wrong reasons mind you. Will leave it there for now, try and keep the depression to a minimum.
Well, its just three cups we are chasing now! And its still all possible now, Gooners! All we need is belief!
Heads up all the way! Come on Arsenal!
