PFC Border Wars 1 Windsor Results: Clements KO's Briere with Spinning Back Kick
Pro Fighting Championships Border Wars 1 went down tonight at the WFCU arena in Windsor, Ontario and saw a headline title match up between Quebec Ringside Champion Chris "The Menace" Clements against Unified welterweight champion Travis "The Pitbull" Briere.
Here are the quick results:
MAIN CARD
Main Event
Chris Clements vs. Travis Briere
First round very cautious and technical wrestling ruled the day. Clements had more dominant position and I gave it to him.
The second round opened with Clements stalking Briere and he landed a vicious spinning back kick and nailed Briere square in the liver/ribs putting a halt to the fight quickly as the ref stopped it after Travis crumbled and was tapping the mat.
Ali Mokdad vs. Javier Torres
Torres wins via split decision (29-28, 28-29,29-28)
The first round was very uneventful but Torres looked the more relaxed fighter and took the round. Mokdad warmed up in the second and scored a solid takedown and strikes from the top to take the round.
The third round both fighters stood the whole round but Mokdad was pushing forward and Torres was backing up neither fighter scored much. Torres took a surprising split decision.
Chuck Mady vs. John Fraser
Fraser wins via reverse triangle choke (3:10 Round 1)
Much like it was expected, John Fraser was simply too much on the ground for Chuck Mady and he controlled him and worked in a beautiful top side triangle to finish him quickly on the ground.
Brent Franczuz vs. Andrew Cseh
Franczuz wins via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
Both fighters traded rounds to begin the fight with Cseh opening strong with strength and position in Round 1. Franczuz definitely got stronger as the fight went on taking Round 2 and 3 based on take downs and top position.
Preliminary Card
Andrew Mcinnis vs. Chad Laprise
Laprise wins via 1st round KO
It was clear from the beginning that Mciniss wanted this on the ground and Laprise wanted this one standing up and it became clear quickly why. Laprise landed a big shot on Mcinnis while on the ground and knocked him out cold.
Laprise (from Chatham, Ontario) is coached by Shawn Tompkins and had UFC veteran Kevin "The Monster" Randleman with him in his corner and his post fight interview.
Randleman spoke highly of Canadian MMA and said that we have many future champions coming up in the ranks.
Manuel Alfaro vs. Pete Brown
Alfaro wins via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
The youngster Alfaro used a very effective counter punching game to score shots and even get a knockdown on the veteran Brown. Alfaro was a bit tentative in mixing his shots but his counters led him to victory
Mitch Kay vs. Clint Kingsbury
Kingsbury wins via TKO (4:40 Round 3)
In a very exciting fight, veteran wrestler Clint Kingsbury used his wrestling, ring control and top game to wear Kay down and finish him late in the fight
Overall, it seemed the attendance for the event was a little lighter than expected based on the successful turnout of the Maximum Fighting Championship event that was held in Windsor in April.
Contributing factors coulld be that there were small issues with booking the fights right up until the last hour and very little promotion of the event leading up to it.
