Busting Up The BCS: Utah and Boise St. Lead The Pack

Dustin JohnsonCorrespondent IOctober 24, 2008

Here is a rundown of the teams trying to bust the BCS and beat out one of the big boys. Ahead you'll get a rundown of those who have a chance and what their remaining schedule looks like.

The Utes at 8-0 lead the pack with a BCS ranking of 11th. They do however have the toughest road ahead as they still have to face TCU and BYU, albeit at home. Away games are at New Mexico and San Diego St. If Utah wins out they will bust the BCS.

At 6-0 the Broncos have more games left to play than anyone else. The toughest matches for the 12th ranked Broncos will be tonight at San Jose St. and a finale at home with Fresno St. They also play at New Mexico St., Idaho, and Nevada. As well as an easy home game with Utah St. Boise can go undefeated but need help from TCU or BYU to make it to the BCS.

The Horned Frogs are ranked 14th in the BCS with a 7-1 record. Their only loss came at #2 Oklahoma. A win on November 6th at Utah would go a long way to making a serious BCS push. They also play at UNLV and entertain Wyoming and a tough Air Force team. Can a one loss TCU team leap an undefeated Boise St. team?

Tulsa is ranked 19th in the BCS standings and has unarguably the easiest remaining schedule. With away games against Arkansas, Houston, and Marshall and home games versus UCF and Tulane the Hurricanes could easily go undefeated. The 7-0 Hurricanes will need alot of help to jump the previous mentioned teams though.

The 7-0 Cardinals are next in the BCS rankings at 20th. They have away games with Miami(OH) and Central Michigan. As well as at home against Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, and perhaps their toughest test against Western Michigan. Ball St. is in the same boat as Tulsa and may still be bowling somewhere besides with the big boys.

The 21st BCS ranked Cougars have perhaps an easier road than both Tulsa and Ball St. Their remaining games are home against UNLV and San Diego St. with away games versus Colorado St., Air Force, and Utah.  If BYU can run the table and beat Utah in their final game they need only 2 things to happen. First Utah must beat TCU, Second someone must rise up and take down Boise St. If these two things happen then that November 22nd game at Utah will decide who shall bust the BCS.

Well that's it for now. All there is left to do is wait and watch.
