Pigskin' Pick'em: NCAA Week 9, NFL Week 8 Picks

Bobby CashContributor IOctober 23, 2008

The world series is under way and we are halfway through the football season. It is quite possibly the greatest time of the year.

Last week was another .500 week and on the year we stand 15-15. Hardly anything to brag about. Let's see if we cant change that this weekend.

I am going to go with Northwestern on the road at Indiana -8. Northwestern's offense has been clicking on all cylinders so far this year and I do not think Indiana can score enough to hang with them.

I'll take Minnesota on the road +1 at Purdue. The Golden Gophers are coming off of a bye week and get a Purdue team that's confidence is shaken. This will be a good measuring stick game for the Gophers where they can show everyone they are a legitimate bowl team.

I like Illinois -3 on the road at Camp Randall against Wisconsin. I keep telling myself sooner or later Wisconsin will come out of it but they have way too many questions at quarterback before I can jump back on their bandwagon. For now, though, I'll take Juice Williams and Illinois' offense.

My upset special of the week is Duke +10 at Vanderbilt. Duke's offense can score and I just have not been impressed with Vanderbilt in the past couple weeks. The one thing Vandy has going for it is that this game is at home.

I'll go with Mississippi on the road -5 at Arkansas. The Rebels proved a lot last weekend at Alabama coming back in the second half to make it a close game. Houston Nutt is going back to his old school and will lay it to the Razorbacks.

Finally I am going to go with Ohio State +2.5 at home under the lights against #3 Penn State. The Buckeyes have an impeccable record at home against ranked Big Ten opponents. This being the eighth time Ohio Stadium's lights will be used, and the Big Ten title on the line, I'll take the Bucks.

I am going to go with the Ravens at home -7 against the Oakland Raiders. Baltimore's defense has played well all year. As long as Flacco does not turn the ball over the Ravens should be able to handle the Raiders.

I'll take the Bills on the road -1.5. The Dolphins have been much improved all year but the Bills are clicking on offense, finally. They seem to have a rhythm going and their defense has been stout. I look for them to continue their winning ways Sunday at Miami.

My upset special is the New York Football Giants on the road +2.5 at Pittsburgh. The Giants need a statement game to put the Monday night embarrassment they had against the Browns to rest. I look for them to come out and play a solid four quarters. This one will be close but I like the Giants.

Finally I will go with the Seahawks +5 on the road at San Francisco. With all the coaching changes and turmoil in San Fran I think Seattle is primed to have a good outing. They need this division win if they are going to have any chance at turning this season around.
