There were many different aspects that I looked at when I created this list.
I took into account athleticism, mic skills, general in-ring ability and how much faith the WWE put into their respective personas. There is also the fact of recent title histories and how long they were and what the Diva did in that title reign in terms of helping and promoting the brand as a champion of the WWE.
The one rule I had for this was that the Diva had to be a current member of the WWE, so recently departed Michelle McCool will not be on the list.
So, without further a due, here are the power rankings of the WWE Divas, starting with an honourable mention.
I would like to take this time to offer a shameless plug to Maximum Pro Wrestling (formerly BSE Pro), a wrestling promotion that has had the likes of Kurt Angle, Christian, Kevin Nash, Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles and a host of other world class athletes work for them at one point or another.
They are based in the Toronto area, and I highly recommend anybody who has the opportunity to see a show from them, to do so. It also features Arda Ocal, who is best known for his role on the Canadian wrestling program on theScore television network "Aftermath." Ocal is a co-owner and ring announcer for Max Pro.
I am also doing this plug because the promotion took me on as a volunteer a few years ago to help set up chairs, help out at the doors for fans, get booths set up for wrestlers and a host of other things, including meeting some of the best the wrestling business has to offer. If anyone is wondering, this was in Timmins, ON.
Imagine being a high school kid and in Ontario (and probably other places too), you need to accumulate 40 hours of volunteer service in order to graduate. I couldn't think of a better way to get those hours so here is my way of giving back, as small as this contribution is because it renewed my love for the sport and it will forever be in my memory banks.
Before you hit the comments section, telling me how little you care about the above story, think twice because if you are reading this, you are a wrestling fan and chances are, you would give an arm and a leg to be in the position that I found myself in.
I wanted to mention Kharma because she has been tearing up the WWE since coming on a number of weeks ago.
The reason she isn't in the top 10 is because she hasn't even had an official match as of yet where she can showcase her true in-ring ability. I know she will be near the top of the heap when she comes back from pregnancy; trust me, all you have to do is watch some of her matches with TNA as Awesome Kong.
All the best goes out to her, and I wonder what she is going to do to the Bella Twins when she returns.
She has been featured on TV a few times but other than helping the Bella Twins turn heel, there isn't much to report for Kim. That said, I had to put her in the top 10 because her skill in the ring is too hard to ignore, in my opinion. She's a former Women's Champion who won it in her WWE debut!
I saw her a couple times when she worked independent shows while in TNA, and she was excellent and a class act outside the ring. A picture with myself, her, Christy Hemme and Traci Brooks still hangs in a frame in my household.
A former Divas Champion, Fox has not been as dominant since her last championship reign, which ended at SummerSlam.
She is starting to return to form, developing what seems to be a six Diva rivalry involving her, Tamina and Rosa Mendes against the former NXT Divas A.J. and Kaitlyn, who have Natalya in their corner.
Should be interesting to see how this one turns out and if there are championship implications for either Natalya or Alicia.
Besides Kharma, Phoenix has to be the most powerful Diva on the roster in brute strength. She has had her moments in the sun as a multi-time Women's Champion but has since been helping other Divas, such as Natalya with their pushes.
Now that she is on RAW, who knows what will come next for Beth. One hopes that "Glamorella" stays off the radar so we can see more of Beth's in-ring ability, something that will no doubt get her up this list.
Not only did she get excluded from WrestleMania, the rest of the world knows that it made her a little petty.
I won't question her feelings on the matter, I am not a wrestler, I don't work for WWE and I do not know Melina personally, but given the story coming out of WrestleMania involving her, John Morrison and Trish Stratus, she has fallen down the chart quickly.
Since arriving in 2005, Melina has been a great on-screen performer, showing great strides in working as a face and as a heel. Her off-screen troubles bring her down a notch on this list, just as much as it knocked her from a few pushes.
She is a five-time champion so it isn't all bad in Melina's world, but as the old saying goes: "It is not what you have done, it is what you have done lately..."
The hot-tempered French Canadian is one of my favourite Divas currently on the roster.
She has excellent in-ring ability, and the fact that she uses French in her promos makes her a great heel, as well as show emotion (French is a very expressive language). However, her relationship angle with Ted DiBiase really hindered her in-ring career.
However, with her on RAW and DiBiase recently drafted to SmackDown, Maryse has the chance to showcase what the WWE has underutilized the last little while, and that is her ability in the ring and character development.
Kelly Kelly has become one of the bigger names in the Divas division. WWE has taken raw talent and moulded it into a Divas Title contender literally overnight.
She received her big push earlier this year with her "firing" angle with Vickie Guererro and hasn't looked back. She most recently challenged Brie Bella for the Divas Championship in May and should be in line for a rematch based on the "Twin Magic" that happened in the aforementioned title match.
She is gorgeous, smart and, as a former broadcast journalism student, she understands the media world quite well, which only benefits her.
A student of the infamous Hart Dungeon, Natalya has come into her own since the end of the Hart Dynasty. She won the Divas Title in November (and subsequently lost it in January), but her skill shines through.
As they say, greatness runs in the family, and when you have relatives like Jim "The Anvil" Neidart, Bret "The Hitman" Hart, the late British Bulldog, the late Owen Hart and many more, it's no surprise that Natalya has been a successful WWE Diva.
She is currently mentoring former NXT Diva A.J. and NXT Season 3 winner Kaitlyn on SmackDown and with it, a rivalry with Alicia Fox and Tamina.
The former Co-Women's Champion has learned so much since the Diva Search. She has gone from Extreme Expose to Lay-Cool, one of the more memorable Diva combinations in recent memory.
Michelle McCool taught Layla many things in their time together, and the send off for McCool couldn't have been done better. Layla could be in line for another Divas Title match when she comes back from her torn ACL and MCL injury (so expect Layla to move down this list as other Divas are pushed in the coming months).
The twins are ranked together because, let's face it, until Nikki develops a storyline to get out of the shadow that her champion sister has, Brie and Nikki will stay together like PB+J. I rank them this high for multiple reasons.
The most obvious being holding the Divas Championship. The twins also rank this high due to the huge push they have received in the last several months. They've gone from being mere eye candy in vignettes with several RAW guest hosts to being utilized as heel wrestlers. I mean, Twin Magic? Typical trick for heels to use, and I believe WWE is now recognizing it.
A long title reign can help their chances of being No. 1, but they still have some work to do. That being said, it shouldn't take away from the fact that they have earned this moment on top (belt-wise, not this list-wise...yes, that's not perfect English, but I'm sticking to it).
Eve is the whole package. Athleticism, beauty, in-ring knowledge and a handle on her character that is unmatched by anyone.
She has been Divas Champion twice in the last year and change and is continuing down a path of superstardom. She also has a great handle on the media and has an upbeat personality outside the ring, something you have to value.
