The WWE Hall of Fame is supposed to be representing the best wrestlers (excuse me "entertainers") who performed in the business. Loaded with the amazing names of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair, just to name a few, the WWE Hall of Fame has been the showcase of the best of the best.
Ever since the untimely death of the "Macho Man" Randy Savage last week, fans have been clamoring for his induction into the Hall of Fame next year. This seems to be the popular opinion amongst the IWC, but I believe that he should not be inducted, especially next year. Although he is undoubtedly a legend in the business, with many considering him to be the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time, the WWE believed that he did not belong in the Hall of Fame.
There have been rumors that he was not in the Hall of Fame due to some sexual relationships with a then-14-year-old Stephanie McMahon. Regardless if they are true or not, the fact remains that Savage is currently not in the Hall of Fame. This is why I believe it would not be good for him to be inducted now.
To induct Savage into the Hall in 2012 would just be taking advantage of the death of the "Macho Man." It would be just greedy for the WWE to use the passing of Savage as a way to get his biggest fans to fly out to Miami next year, so that the WWE can make a few more dollars.
Also, being the legend Savage was, he deserves to headline a class. However, there are many former superstars who also deserve to headline a Hall of Fame class.
Edge, for instance, deserves a first ballot Hall of Fame induction next year. The Rock is long overdue for his induction. Then after they are inducted, Triple H and the Undertaker will have been retired and they definitely deserve to headline their own class. So while Savage definitely deserves a Hall of Fame induction, the timing is not right.
Also, to be inducted after Drew Carey and Pete Rose is a slap in the face to the memory of Savage. It is hard to find a person who thought that Drew Carey did more for the WWE than Randy Savage.
Savage is undoubtedly a legend, and to induct him now is would just be the WWE jumping on an opportunity to make money off of a death. If the WWE actually had respect for Savage, he would've been inducted a long time ago. If they have any respect for him now, they will keep him out of the Hall of Fame.
Now, I'm not saying that he does not belong at all, just not right now. Maybe in five years or so it will be better timing. He definitely deserves to be with the best of the best, for all he did in the "Golden Era." But he deserves to be inducted under the best of circumstances, not for opportunity.
