The Hunt for the BCS National Title Game Is on This Weekend

This past weekend in college football had some great teams facing off, but there were no major upsets, which led to a mostly uneventful weekend. However, this upcoming weekend is going to have the biggest impact on helping to clear up the BCS bowl picture.

There are major Big 12, SEC, and Big Ten battles on the horizon, and it will be interesting and intriguing to see what will happen.

The first game that I am excited about is a battle of the Borders where Oklahoma State will travel to Austin to play the Texas Longhorns. Both teams are undefeated, and Texas has looked amazing during their last two major wins against big time teams Oklahoma and Missouri.

The key factor in this game will be the Longhorns' rush defense against the Cowboys' terrific rushing offense. The Longhorns have the second-best rushing defense in the nation, while the Cowboys' rush offense is ranked fifth.

The matchup between Colt McCoy of Texas and Zac Robinson of OKSU is also very intriguing. McCoy has been outstanding on all levels of play this year and seems to be the leader in the Heisman race at this point.

Robinson is a strong quarterback who continues to make big plays both on the ground and through the air. He needs to have a great passing game this Saturday, and if he does, the Cowboys have a shot at pulling off the upset.

The orange dressed crowd will be going crazy, and Bevo will be in attendance. This has the makings of a great college football game.

In the Big Ten, the matchup between Penn State and Ohio State is going to be monumental and will have the biggest effect on both teams' chances to play for a National Championship. The Nittany Lions have a soft schedule after they travel to Columbus this weekend and have a legitimate shot at going undefeated.

This game is especially important because Ohio St. is playing do-or-die football, which means if they lose they are out of the title race. If Penn St. loses, their résumé will be much less appealing, and they will need help from other schools to get a chance to play in Miami.

The key to this game will be the rushing attack of Beanie Wells against the strong Nittany Lions defense. Simply put, if the Buckeyes can’t run the ball, they have no shot at winning this game. It is going to be a classic battle in Ohio this weekend with major National Championship aspirations.

The top SEC game this weekend, with Georgia traveling to Baton Rouge to take on LSU, will be a playoff-type game. Both teams have already netted one loss, and both have difficult remaining schedules.

This game sounds great on paper, but each week LSU has not looked impressive, and they don’t seem to have much of a chance against the Dawgs. Playing at home will be a major advantage, but Georgia is just too good, and the Tigers will know that as soon as the game begins. The LSU defense has looked weak at times, and overall they are just not playing very good football.

If Georgia ends up winning this game, they will stay alive in the title hunt, and their Nov. 1 game against Florida will be absolutely amazing.

We are now fully into this college football season, and there are numerous questions still to be answered. BCS rankings have come out, and everyone should be looking forward to this weekend’s games, as the hunt for the National Championship has officially begun.
