Tonight the Stars will embark on their first real road trip of the 2008-2009 season. Visiting New York (both teams), and New Jersey before heading home for Washington on the 25th. The Stars first real test will come against the NHL best New York Rangers and Sean Avery’s former team.
For the Stars to Win:
- Turco must look sharp and play focused.
- The defense must not look like the leagues worst (which they are rated as)
- Sean Avery must be an even bigger pest than normal.
If these things happen, the Stars will likely walk away with the win.
Dallas – RW Jere Lehtinen (groin) and D Sergei Zubov (hip) are out.
New York – LW Patrick Rismiller (ankle) is questionable.
*Toby Petersen will not be playing as his wife is expecting a child*
"I'm just a guy who wants to win a Stanley Cup,"
The real story for tonight’s game is the return of Sean Avery to the Big Apple. Regardless of being a Rangers fan who still adore Avery or a Stars fan just beginning to man-crush on him everyone involved knows Avery will be the main attraction and factor tonight.
To be honest, so far this season Avery has been slightly disappointing to me. After a somewhat impressive preseason the flatness of the Stars has only made me question Avery’s addition even more. Avery looks miserable on the ice, as he ought to be.
He came to Dallas expecting to be the missing piece of a Stanley Cup team; instead the Stars appear to be like a wounded gazelle. Someone please put them out of their misery.
Yes, Avery burned a lot of bridges in New York with the way he left, but he followed his heart to a team after the Cup when he felt New York wasn’t contender. Moreover, many New York fans still adore the interesting character that is Sean Avery.
There is something to be said for a guy who can capture fans hearts even with the way he acts. Sean brings that shock value pretty boy mentality to hockey. To those who think Sean Avery really is as screwed up as he appears, it’s an act as pointed out in Mike Heika’s Dallas Stars section at the Dallas Morning News. I’d suggest checking it out.
