Throughout the history of Fightsports, there have been devastating injuries and sometimes, death.
In this Bleacher Report video slideshow, we will review 10 of the worst injuries sustained not only in MMA, but in the entire world of combat sports.
As stated above, some of these videos are not for the faint-hearted.
This video is pretty old and was highly talked about during the time it surfaced in the early 2000s.
The fighter threw a shin kick that was checked by his opponent, causing the tibia to snap completely in half.
After the compound fracture occurs, he goes to put his foot down only to find that his foot is now at a 45 degree angle from where it should be!
This is by far one of the most grotesque injuries sustained in combat sports.
Amazingly enough, the fighter’s leg healed perfectly and he was eventually able to return to fighting.
Rob Evans procured an identical injury to the fighter in the previous video in his bout with Ross Pettifer at Cage Rage 4.
Make sure you’re throwing your kicks at a specific target and not just flinging them out there hoping to hit some part of the leg.
This hurts just watching it.
Imagine the time it takes to heal from that kind of injury!
In this fight between Yelussizov vs. Briggs, it appears that Briggs (black trunks) is getting the better of his opponent by staying on top and raining down punches.
What you may not notice is that, Yelussizov trapped Briggs' arm between his legs while Briggs was transitioning to the top position.
When Briggs attempted to pull his arm out, Yelussizov rolled and dislocated Briggs elbow.
I've never before seen an injury like this one in MMA.
**I've replaced the previous video in this segment with a better version allowing you to see the injury more clearly.
This is what happens when you try to power out of a properly applied key lock, otherwise known as an "Americana."
At the Tuff N Uff MMA event in Las Vegas in February 2009, the fighter on the bottom attempted to power out of a keylock submission, only to have his forearm snap in half.
Remember guys, tapping might suck, but it's much cooler than having a limb broken in half and the video plastered all over the Internet for people to watch, laugh and puke at.
Special thanks to the Jeff Meyer, VP of Tuff N Uff, for allowing us to use this footage.

In this Muay Thai bout, we see the fighter in question start to drop and then he gets kicked in the face before he actually hits the ground.
Even though the title of the video says that his jaw was broken, it was not.
The kick to the dome after he was already out from the punches actually caused the downed fighter to have a seizure.
This has to be the freakiest looking KO that I've ever seen.
Megumi Fujii, also known as "Ninja Girl" to the MMA world, is one of Japan's fastest rising female MMA stars, and for good reason too.
As her name indicates, she shoots fast like a ninja and sunk in this ankle lock before her opponent even realized what was happening.
As you can see, by the time she did come to the realization that her ankle was about to break, it was too late.
I'll definitely be looking out for more from Ninja Girl and so should you!
Anyone who thinks women fighters aren't as tough as men should think again after watching this incredible clip of the absolute worst grappling injury that I have ever seen.
Rising women's MMA star Angela Magana accidentally broke her opponent's left leg/knee during a women's no-gi grappling match after listening to the advice of her corner.
The force of Angela attempting to bring her opponent down to the mat and into her guard, against the resistance of the other fighter's attempt to stand caused the displaced knee and compound fracture.

In this MMA bout, we see a striker vs. a grappler and Judoka.
The Judoka seems to be getting the better of the striker, especially in the clinch where Judo players are the strongest.
Things seem to be going well for the grappler until one of his throws goes wrong and he ends up landing on his leg and snapping it at the knee.
This is definitely one of the more painful injuries that a fighter can sustain and also the longest to recover from.
I've seen Matt Lindland knock himself out going for a five-point throw, but this leg break takes the cake for the worst self-inflicted MMA injury.
This video is a group of still photos showing the worst cuts in recent UFC history.
Even though cuts aren't usually considered serious, they can end fights and sideline a fighter even from training, for a good while.
They are also the bloodiest of Fightsport injuries.
This video hasn't surfaced in quite a while, at least not that I've seen.
So, even though it's not a very serious injury, I think that it's quite hilarious and jaw-droppingly enjoyable.
This has to be a one in a million chance.
Has anyone seen this happen before or since?
