RA Dickey and the 9 Goofiest Pitcher Faces in MLB
Despite what many people may think, all athletes are not clean-looking; in fact some look rather dorky.
It of course doesn't detract from their skills, but through physical exertion some of these goofy looking athletes look even worse because of the faces they may make.
We will be taking a look at some of the goofiest pitchers in the game today. These guys will range from good pitchers to terrible pitchers, but their production is unfortunately what puts them on the list.
So, let's get on to the list.
R.A. Dickey, New York Mets
1 of 9
The 36-year-old knuckleballer starts off our list with quite the mug.
From his shaggy hair to his beard, Dickey looks a bit like a goofball. The thing that gets me with him though, is his face when he's pitching.
For a guy that throws slow knucklers to get batters out, Dickey seems to let out a Serena Williams-like grunt when he releases the ball.
It's just kind of off looking because he's one of the few pitchers that does it, and he doesn't even throw that hard.
John Lackey, Boston Red Sox
2 of 9
With a look on his face like that, Lackey will never be mistaken for a model.
Lackey doesn't have the face of an athlete, in fact he would probably fit just fine as a regular every day guy where I'm from.
This hasn't held back Lackey's career though, as he has a career record of 118-87 with an ERA of 3.98.
Trevor Cahill, Oakland Athletics
3 of 9
Cahill is without question one of the best pitchers in the game, but he also possesses one of its goofiest faces.
Cahill simply looks like a fun-loving guy that doesn't have a very competitive or intimidating face.
His 1.84 ERA is good for fourth in the majors though, so he is pretty intimidating to face in the batter's box.
Matt Cain, San Francisco Giants
4 of 9
Cain is like Cahill in that he is one of the better pitchers in the league, yet has a goofy face that is not intimidating.
Cain's look would fit perfectly in every small American town I've ever been in, yet he can seem out of place on the mound to those that don't follow baseball.
Tom Gorzelanny, Washington Nationals
5 of 9
Gorzelanny looks like a guy that comes straight from the country.
He is easily one of the goofiest looking pitchers in the game today.
Gorzelanny is having good success this year with a 2-2 record and an ERA of 3.40.
Aaron Harang, San Diego Padres
6 of 9
When Harang isn't working his serious face, he looks rather goofy.
He does in fact look like someone that would enjoy spending some time with Tim Lincecum and his, ahem, pharmaceutical supplies.
Harang has been a solid pitcher throughout his career though, even with his goofy face.
Taylor Buchholz, New York Mets
7 of 9
Buchholz looks goofy to me because it seems like his head is too small for his body.
He also seems to have a bit of a triangluar chin.
Buchholz has been very good this year though, with an ERA of 1.66 in 21.2 innings pitched.
Tim Lincecum, San Francisco Giants
8 of 9
One of the game's two or three best pitchers also has one of its goofiest faces.
Lincecum is on pace to have one of the best careers of this generation.
Lincecum's surfer hairdo is one of a kind in the game, and works well with his goofy face.
Brian Wilson, San Francisco Giants
9 of 9
With the mohawk and now-famous, and rather awesome, beard, Wilson looks goofy and truly is.
All most people have to do is look the guy up on YouTube and watch some his interviews and various crazy moments for the Giants closer.
He is one of the game's best closer, probably because of his lack of caring of what you or I think about him and his looks.
