10. Dallas Mavericks: Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, Josh Howard
Dirk Nowizki is one of the best shooting big men in the game. Jason Kidd is a great playmaker, but he is not the same player that was. Josh Howard is a very good scorer and a good rebounder.
9. Philadelphia 76ers: Elton Brand, Andre Igoudala, Andre Miller
With the addition of Elton Brand, the Sixers are now contenders in the east. Brand is a guaranteed 20/10 and is a very good defender. Andre Igoudala is a great all-around player who is also an athletic freak. Andre Miller is a very good point guard and a great leader.
8. Phoenix Suns: Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Shaquille O'Neal
Steve Nash is a two time MVP and is one of the best point guards in the game. Amare is the best scoring big man in the game. Shaq is way past his prime, but he is still a good player.
7. Portland Trail Blazers: Brandon Roy, Greg Oden, LaMarcus Aldridge
Brandon Roy is a great all-around player and is a great leader. Greg Oden is very injury prone, but if he can stay healthy, the Blazers are going to be a scary team. He is going to be a solid offensive player and a defensive animal. LaMarcus Aldridge is a very good big man that can score the ball.
6. Cleveland Cavaliers: LeBron James, Mo Williams, Zydrunas Ilgauskas
LeBron James is the second-best player in the game. His is a great team leader, but he can be selfish at times. Mo Williams was acquired by Cavs this offseason and is a very good point guard. He is a very good scorer and a good passer. Zydrunas Ilguaskas is very good shooting big man and is a great shot blocker.

Good list overall, but I disagree with a couple of the spots. I think Portland's trio of Roy, Aldridge and Oden should be higher as they will all fit well together and I think the the Suns trio shouldn't even be on the list as Shaq is pretty much finished and Nash is slowing down and is arguably the worst defensive guard in the whole league.

I can understand why you think the Suns shouldnt be here. But Nash and Amare are one of the best 1-2 punches in the game and Shaq obviously isnt the same player that he was, but he is still a good player.

What is the basis for your selections?
If it's pure production and number of championships, no way can Duncan, Parker and Ginobili not be first. I still think Boston and San Antonio boast the ONLY big threes in the NBA. Houston and Dallas can get there if they each advance past the first round.
My definition of a star trio? Three players who can each change the outcome of a game on both ends of the floor, and have proven it in pressure situations. Pressure cannot be quanitified on a stat sheet but only by watching games. Those three players also have to be markedly better than the next best players on the roster. The role players on such a team can still be fantasic, but there has to be a gap.
Do the Lakers have three best players who are better than everyone else on the squad? I'm not sure.
And, are we ready to christen trios that have not played together yet?
Just my two cents. I enjoyed reading it.

It is not based on number of championships. It is based on pure talent and potential for this season.

I think the Wizards big 3 of Arenas, Butler, and Jamison should be on this list and even in the top 5, I would suggest moving the Rockets out. Now, I know Gilbert was hurt last year but he still averaged 19 points in the games he played. When all 3 are healthy, Gilbert can average 28+ ppg, Caron can average 20, Jamison can avg 20 ppg and 10 rpg (just like he did last year). We can't count injuries against these guys, Andrew Bynum is at number 1 and he was hurt last year. Gilbert will be back in December and the Wiz Big 3 will be rolling again. When they are all healthy, the wiz are really tough to beat, they were the 2nd highest scoring team in the league when they were are healthy.

Mark, the problem with the big three of the Wizards is that Arenas and Butler are extremely injury prone (especially Arenas) and Arenas and Jamison are terrible defensive players.

Good overall list, but I think the big three of the Rockets should be in the top three. Yao one of the 2 best centers, T Mac is still a great offensive player and Artest is one of the best offensive/defensive perimeter players in the league.

If this list is based on pure talent and potential, Portland should be number one. If it's performance and history, San Antonio is the clear choice. LA has not won anything. San Antonio has. LAs talented trio (and they are very good) are not better
Also, it's a bit premature to label Oden as "injury prone". I recognize he missed all last season with the knee surgery, but that's behind him and he's 100% (still working on conditioning). He played through the wrist in college and the reported ankle tweak recently wasn't even enough to keep him out of a game had it been regular season.
The only inury has been the one he gave to Pryz the other day while getting a rebound. Two injuries...one of any significance does not label anyone as "injury prone". However, I do recognize it will take a healthy season this year before people lose that preconception of him.

Good list overall, but I don't think the trio of the Mavs should be on the list. Miami's big three of Wade, Beasley and Marion is better than that one in my opinion.

I think you're wrong because the Heat's trio hasn't showed anything yet

i hope you dont mind me for saying, but i seem to notice how all of your articles favor the lakers in some way.
still a good article, except a would place the cavaliers lower. the only good one on that trio is Lebron, and he's making the players around him better, but not great.
