Was Roy Williams Trade Panic Button Move?
Did Jerry Jones press the panic button when he traded away three draft picks last night for Detroit Lions receiver Roy Williams, who in five years has equal numbers to Terrell Owens?
Deion Sanders thinks so.ย
"โDonโt like it one bit,โ Deion said. โFirst of all, it raises your eyebrows when a franchise gives up their best player, their best receiver. Thereโs a problem there. Whatโs the problem? I donโt understand. Iโve done my homework, checked on Roy. I donโt think Royโs the hardest worker inside that Detroit Lion locker room thatโs coming over here. ย โNow, is he ready to play second fiddle? Because T.O. is the man in Dallas. Is he ready to do that? Is he losing speed? Can he get deep? What do they need?โ

Roy Williams may not be a Michael Irvin, but Deion Sanders has no business judging who may be a hard worker. Just read Jeff Pearlmanโs book โBoys Will be Boysโ to get the inside scoop on lazy ass Sanders.ย
Letโs address the second fiddle comment. Terrell Owens may find himself the second fiddle if the opposing defenses are going to continue double teaming him. The defenses will have to pick and choose who they want to focus on. So, if they turn their attention to both guys, then wonโt Jason Witten be that much more open. I am glad I have him on my fantasy team, as well as Marion Barber, who should see some larger holes now that we have two No. 1 wide receivers.ย
Now, was this a panic move?
"โI smell panic, and thereโs no need to panic at this time,โ Deion said. โBecause this is still a good team, but I feel like Jason Garrett may have gone to Jerry Jones [and said], โYou know what? We need another receiver.โ Tony Romo: โYou know what? We need another receiver.โ
โInstead of understanding, well, Jason, they might have caught up to your offense from last year. Tony, get rid of the ball every once in a while. Letโs tell the truth to these guys. Letโs quit pacifying them.โ
"
The Cowboys needed a wide receiver at some point. Terrell Owens has maybe 3 more years left. Roy Williams is a Cowboys until 2013. Terrell Owens is not. This was a smart move to ensure the Cowboys always have a top wide out.ย
Now, whether they paid too much is a different story. Some think we got fleeced.
