MMA: Is the Lack of Judges' Monitors Good or Bad?

“Never leave it in the hands of the judges," is one of the most famous quotes in MMA today.

When a fight is close, it’s understandable that a decision could go either way. Edgar vs. Maynard II comes to mind. But then there are those fights like Nam Phan vs. Leonard Garcia that clearly should have gone the other way.

One solution to bad judging could be having cageside monitors.

But according to mmafighting.com, the Nevada Sports Athletic Commission won’t be allowing them anytime soon, sadly.

Keith Kizer, the NSAC’s executive director, told mmafighting.com that he “likes the fact the officials are positioned in different locations around the cage and have different vantage points during the bout.”

While each judge having a different view can be a good thing, it could also be a burden. The judges don’t have the luxury of seeing every angle like many of us at home.

Other sports have added the use of monitors for instant replays in tough situations; why should combat sports be any different? 

While monitors could be a good thing, they wouldn’t be the end of bad judging. There's always potential for human error, even with the advancement of technology. 

But letting the judges have monitors could be a step in the right direction.
