Week Six Fantasy Football: Wide Receiver Rankings

Jamal CollierOct 7, 2008

So, you started Santana Moss in Week 5. And he laid an egg. Now where does he stand in Week 6's Rankings? Read on to find out.

These rankings are reflective of how I believe NFL players will perform, from a standard fantasy scoring perspective, in their current situations and Week Six matchups.

  1. Greg Jennings, GB (at SEA). The Seahawks got burned last week by Eli Manning, with 272 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. That’s without Plaxico Burress. Already the league’s leading receiver, Jennings should benefit from the same generous defense.
  2. Larry Fitzgerald, ARI (vs DAL). The Cowboys have allowed three one hundred yard receiving efforts this year, and a separate two-touchdown game last week. Larry Fitzgerald is a 100-yard, two-touchdown kind of guy. I’m just sayin’.
  3. Terrell Owens, DAL (at ARI). The Cardinals have given up nine passing touchdowns in the past two weeks.
  4. Plaxico Burress, NYG (at CLE). Burress had a double-bye, and returns against a Browns defense allowing 253 yards per game in the air to players catching passes from anyone not named Joe Flacco or Ryan Fitzpatrick.
  5. Brandon Marshall, DEN (vs JAX). Marshall leads the league in targets per game. Over four contests, he’s been thrown at a whopping 51 times. And after watching the Steelers put up 309 on the Jags Sunday night, Marshall should be primed for a big game.
  6. Randy Moss, NE (at SD). He’s baaaaack.
  7. Santana Moss, WAS (vs STL). Won’t get shut out this week.
  8. Reggie Wayne, IND (vs BAL). The Ravens’ defense is good. Really good. And Reggie Wayne is good. Really good. But Peyton Manning is great. Really great. Colts’ offense > Ravens’ defense this week.
  9. Bobby Engram, SEA (vs GB). Engram could easily go for 80 yards and a touchdown, and he’s gold in PPR leagues.
  10. Steve Smith, CAR (at TB). Denver’s high-powered offense was prevented from going nuts last week, but the Bucs still failed to record a pick, and gave up 227 and a touchdown. I can see Smith beating them deep once or twice.
  11. Andre Johnson, HOU (vs MIA). Andre Johnson caught his first touchdown last week, and Matt Schaub should be back this week. However, with the emergence of Steve Slaton, Andre falls to a borderline No. 1 this week. He can gain ground when defenses start to key in more on Slaton.
  12. Laveranues Coles, NYJ (vs CIN). Coles got a week of rest after exploding for three touchdowns against the Cardinals in Week 4. He’ll look to do more of the same against a Bengals defense that has given up seven passing touchdowns this year against two interceptions.
  13. Isaac Bruce, SF (vs PHI). This guy still has legs under him, and confirms my belief that the Rams were crazy for letting him go. The 49ers obviously thought the same thing, signing him very soon after, and Bruce has paid dividends.
  14. DeSean Jackson, PHI (at SF). Jackson didn’t do much in the receiving game last week, but he did return a punt for a touchdown. Expect him to get back into the offense in San Francisco.
  15. TJ Houshmandzadeh, CIN (at NYJ). Housh should perform well against a Jets defense that allowed 472 yards in the air in Week 4, and could be without safety Eric Smith, who is appealing a one-game suspension for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Anquan Boldin.
