As an avid fan of WWE, I watched Raw last night just to see what happened at Wrestlemania and see where the WWE was going with all of the developments from it. Ultimately I just had to look at Manpig, a.k.a my husband, and shake my head.
The Rock versus Cena at Wrestlemania 28? A whole year away?!
I would like the WWE to consider a few key points that they may have overlooked prior to booking the match this way.
Point No. 1
We live in a society of instant gratification, one that allows us to interact with anyone we want to at any time thanks to a cell phone.
Just found out that your Aunt Gertrude's bowel has not had a movement in the past three months? Calling your Mom to let her know that she's having issues while in the middle of the grocery store is perfectly acceptable to some. Some people feel the urge to argue with their spouses or significant others, via cell phone, while waiting in line at the grocery store.
While I neither care what you are arguing with your spouse about, nor that Aunt Gertrude hasn't pooped during half of the Obama administration, please know that I will comment.
Point No. 2
Our attention span, as a society, is virtually non-existent. Our society loves to look at one thing for a short period of time and be done with it (please see instant gratification). Look at the shiny ball, kids! Oh yeah, that's nice! But that ball is shinier!
While we love to look at matches between legends, and I anticipate that the Rock versus Cena will be a good one, the thought that anyone could keep this matchup fresh for a whole year is not very promising. I have commented in the past about how story lines in the WWE are too long, and to think that this could potentially go a whole year is overwhelming.
Does the Rock, or Cena for that matter, have a new movie that they are filming? Is this the reason for the wait?
The twisted part of my brain has a mental image of The Two-th Fairy with both the Rock and Cena. It could be a "buddy" film, where the two tooth fairies are competing over who collects the most teeth, which results in a TLC match where violence and loose teeth abound.
Pink tutus on wrestlers... I'm just saying that this could be a legend killer in itself.
Please, nobody write this movie.
Point No. 3
We are a somewhat selfish society.
We want what we want when we want it, got it?
The people want to see Cena versus the Rock. 'Just bring it' takes on a whole new meaning, knowing that this is going to happen a year out.
Remember WWE: "Seeks instant gratification, possesses a short attention span and selfish" describes this wrestling fan.
