WWE Name Game

The WWE has decided to start giving fake names to developmental wrestlers in the FCW.

One of the reasons: If the wrestlers choose to go somewhere other than the WWE, they will have to use their real names.

If someone like Stone Cold (real name Steve Williams) were to leave the WWE, the WWE would still own the name Stone Cold, but of course not his real name.

Evan Bourne's real name is Matt Sydal.  So coming from developmental, he was given a false name to go by. Since he is famous for being Evan Bourne, not many people will go to see Matt Sydal if he were to leave.

There were rare cases like Ted Dibiase Jr., since his father was in the WWE a while back.

But other than that, all of the names of the new wrestlers you are seeing now—especially in ECW—are not real.

So don't try to look up social security numbers or birth certificates for Ricky Ortiz or Tiffany.

They are not real.

The WWE feels by doing this, the market for people, and of course more of their talent, will still come from FCW like previously stated.

Speaking of FCW, the Florida Championship Wrestling is trying to increase attendance at TV tapings. They had been taping all shows for in-house purposes, but still didn't have a TV deal locally.

The belief among talent right now is that a TV deal has been reached, but no one seems to be aware of any particulars.

This would be good. Seeing the potential superstars coming on would be good.  But we all may not get the show, considering not everyone lives in the Florida area.

The WWE is trying to get its own channel which is a while down the road. I figured they would wait until then...oh well.

What do you think about the name change?  Is it good or bad for potential superstars?

Yea I noticed that when they signed The Alpha Male, but basically its kind of good for some and bad for others. The WWE did team 3D really dirty with the Dudley name, which they had been using for years before even making it to the WWE in that case its bad, but if the WWE had made up names for them then they wouldn't be in that situation, so I guess it depends on how you look at it.

The name game can go either way. There younger talent all is being given names that creative chooses, some chosen on their own IE Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels which are WWE through and through but someone like John Cena and Randy Orton are using there own names where if there ever is a problem and a falling out they can take their names to competitors if they so choose. So i can see where WWE is making up names as a WWE Trademark is smart so they can have the name forever in their archives for DVD's. But i think its hard when someone leaves the company and wants to continue on they can't use the name their athletic ability and time put it to continue on.

It really depends on how the talent comes in. Most of it is coming from developmental these days that's why were seeing more of this name changing. But take a superstar like CM Punk for example, he didn't have that name created, it was his name from ROH. I don't think you'll see many superstars using names they actually made up anymore unless they join WWE from the outside without going through developmental.

ya both CM Punk and Samoa Joe used ROH names, but they are not their real names, so its fine, I mean Joe may be Samoe Joe's but thatsit, and to CM Punk, we both know thats not his real name. Now in TNA reall names could happen, but in the WWE from now on, all FCW names will be made up, everyone, I showed an exception with Dibiase Jr But his dad was in the WWE by the same name so it sounded alright, even Cody Rhodes was ok to me. But Evan Vourne, and names you'll hear probably cominf from ECW, Kingston, anbody will be made up unless they come from TNA in that case they may let them keep the same name. Well they didn't with R-Truth, Ron Killings in TNA, so we will see
