Top Ten Teams
1) Oklahoma—Ready for the Longhorns.
2) LSU—Played well against Idle.
3) Texas—Was a little surprised by how easy they did it on the road.
4) Penn State—Not as close against Purdue as most thought
5) BYU—Could have scored 100, called the dogs off.
6) Alabama—Won without looking real good, part of winning sometimes.
7) Missouri—Still waiting for a defense to stop them.
8) Tulsa—Looks like they are going to have agripe if they keep winning.
9) Boise State—As good as anyone right now.
10) Oklahoma State—Just putting the Cowboys here to keep Texas Tech out of the top 10.
Ten Scores that surprised me the most
1) Hawaii 32, Fresno State 29—This game was at Fresno State.
2) Missouri 52, Nebraska 17—For some reason I thought the Huskers would play with more pride for the home folk.
3) Army 44, Tulane 13—Any Army win is a huge surprise, this one is extra huge.
4) Virginia 31, Maryland 0—I probably would have ranked the Terps if they won as 13 1/2 point favorites.
5) UTEP 30, So. Miss 27—That firing Jeff Bower bad karma we talked about all spring must be kicking in.
6) Tulsa 63, Rice 28—Just surprised it went less than 100 total points.
7) Virginia Tech 27, Western Kentucky 13—Just surprised it was that close.
8) South Carolina 31, Ole Miss 24—Didn't think the 'Cocks could score 31 points.
9) Pittsburgh 26, South Florida 21—Anytime Wanny beats a ranked team it's a shocker.
10) Tennessee 13, Northern Illinois 9—Phil Fulmer must feel real secure right now.
Ten Other Things That Surprised Me
1) Lisa Horne picking nine correctly against me—Of course she picks my week to catch fire, Congrats!
2) Me picking so poorly in Lisa's pick 'em—Thankfully most of those games were really "no plays."
3) How bad the video was on Gameplan yesterday—Did Ole Miss and South Carolina play in a cloud?
4) Charlie Weiss trying to blow the game—You never give your opponent the ball back with a chance to win or tie without trying to score to put it out of reach first. I don't get it.
5) The Wisconsin Band—Not that they got suspended, but that they got more mentions on TV than they normally do in a season.
6) How bad the commentary is on Vs.—And I quote "Another big reason Kansas isn't winning right now is because Iowa State has 20 points and Kansas doesn't have any." (such insight).
7) Did I mention the commentary on Vs. yet?

Good insight!!!!!!!!!! But here are my slight adjustments.
TOP TEN
1) Get Tulsa out.
2) Move Missuouri up even higher
3) Get Oklahoma State out as well.
4) Replace with Southern Cal and Florida
Scores that surprised.
1) South Carolina defense won this game.
2) What is wrong with Tennessee?
3) Good thing Osborne helped to hand pick the coach!
SCORES that did not surprise me
1) I thought Tony Franklin was suppose to solve the offensive problems at Auburn.
2) Just how bad are the Aggies?
Match ups for next week.......
1) Texas and Oklahoma......... what a game!
2) Florida vs LSU.......... good game for the 3rd strongest conference.
3) Missouri crushes Okla St.
4) I am not sure how Wisconsin can recover against the best team in the league after the last two weeks.
5) Auburn kills the worst program, along with Miss. State, in any of the power conferences
6) Ole Miss has already played, and lost, to Vandy. I think you mean Miss. St.
7) I know you hate Clemson, but the Tigers match up well against Wake.....so you might be disappointed.... If not, Clemson will be with your beloved Canes and the season over before it actually began. Neither will go to a bowl........ One coach gone and the other, just one year away from the same.
Coaches doing a nice job.......
1) Bobby Johnson................well sort of. He is getting a lot of love now becuase he is in the SEC. But the SEC is not what is was the last 2 years. And, I still want to watch and see.
2) Les Miles is doing a wonderful job along with Joe Pa and Butch Davis
3) Paul Johnson has wins over Jax State, a 3 point win over a rebuilt BC team, Duke and a horrible Miss. State team. They choked in their only tough game. Let us see what he does in the last 4 games of the season.......
Week 6 boring.
1) Tom should have eaten cheese.......that grease he ate looked disgusting.
2) The sideline reporter at the UVA/Maryland game...................... horrible.
Ten Articles to read.........
1) At least VS has them aired.....
2) Can not agree with #3.........sorry too many poor arctiles to agree.
I love your top ten list.....................

Jay,
Thanks for the comments. The rankings should work themself out starting this week. not sold on Florida. I think just the way Bobby Johnson has used his red shirts alone he's done a good job, just my 2 cents.

OK..........give me 2 more cents...................... If Clemson gets rid of TB, and you were the AD, who would you go after? Because he is history if he loses this week.

Stop holding a grudge against Tech, it is getting Ridiculous.
MUCH better than BYU, Boise, OK St & Tulsa.
I'll make a bet with you Mitch.
If Tech loses more than one game, ALL SEASON (Including Big 12 Championship & Bowl Game), I will leave the site.
If they lose one, or go undefeated, you make yourself a little video, and put it up on your site proclaiming that you were wrong about Tech, and lack common sense. That is all I ask.

You got me on the Terps... we had that talk last week and look what happens... they get smoked by a Virginia team that has been horrible. They show up in the big games and lay an egg against the bad teams. Unreal.
On 'Bama I'm with you - a win is a win. Sometimes a team needs a game like that so that they can realize they're not invincible and can build off games like that more so than others.
PSU did play better than the score says... a half dozen or so times they slipped on the field - tackling themselves. Then again, Purdue's kicker missed two FG's and an extra point. He was horrible.

The Terps had me drinking the Kool- Aid as well, the ACC is just a mess this year. I'm never one to look at field conditions affecting one side more than the other, the Miami-FSU game was just a mess this year.

Great article...but I'd rather have Ball State in the Top 10 than Tulsa. Also, no matter how many times I say this, people still put them back in the top 10: BOISE STATE DOES NOT PLAY ANYBODY AND WOULD GO SOMETHING LIKE 3-9 OR WORSE IF THEY WERE PUT IN A GOOD CONFERENCE!
Good job keeping TTU out of the Top 10, though. Move Penn State up 2 or 3 spots, also...you know we're the best team in the nation...I shouldn't say that because I might be eating my words if PSU loses any of their next three games. These next three determine our season.
I actually don't mind bad announcing...it makes me crack up when I hear it, and I laugh even harder when people write about it and make fun of it. Keep it up you dumb announcers!
Bad officiating is in every sport, and has happened since before the beginning of time...it will never change. It is sad and upsetting, but it is a reality. I also agree that they should make better clock rules. I liked it when the clock stopped whenever you got out of bounds, this 5 minute rule at the end of each half just shortens games. How can you have only 10 minutes out of 60 of stopped clock when you go out of bounds! I agree with you...MORE FOOTBALL=GOOD!
Great article. Can't wait for next week's edition.

Thanks for the comments, I don't know what I would do without bad announcers either. Some just make bad comments, some are just tough to listen to though.
The rankings will sort themself out, I'm sure of it though I don't think the championship game will..

mitch:
Another person on the BYU bandwagon I see. Once again, BYU has played 3 - 2 I - AA Northern Iowa (their sole victory over a winning team), 0 - 5 Washington (by one point), 2 - 3 UCLA, 2 - 4 Wyoming, and 1 - 4 Utah State. Their opponents are a combined 8 - 18, and only 2 of those 8 victories have come against BCS conference teams (2 - 3 Tennessee and 1 - 5 Washington State).
So why on earth does everyone regard BYU so highly? Yes, they are undefeated. (So are the 5 teams that you have behind them, and for the record so are Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Texas Tech, whom you do not have listed.) But how many other teams wouldn't be against their schedule? This isn't bashing mid - majors. It is the 8 - 18, their only opponent with a winning record being I - AA, and only 2 of the 8 coming against major college teams, neither of whom is going to a bowl game.
Even Utah, who is in the same conference: 2 - 3 Michigan, 3 - 3 UNLV, 1 - 4 Utah State, 3 - 2 Air Force, 4 - 2 I - AA Weber State, 2 - 3 Oregon State. 13 - 17 is much better than 8 - 18. 3 of their victories have come against majors (Michigan over 3 - 2 Wisconsin, UNLV over 2 - 3 ASU, Oregon State over #9 USC.)
Seriously, this hyping of BYU is bizarre, and if they get a national title bid over a 1 loss team or even a BCS bid over a more deserving mid - major, then it will be a crime.

TO be 100% honest I do my poll with a look to who is the best right now and also who projects where. Porbably not the best way to go but it will all shake out. The only other non bcs that can make it right now are Boise, Utah (if they beat BYU), and Tulsa. It's going to be a real disaster for the BCS this year. It could be Vandy Duke in the Sugar or Orange.

The BCS is a disaster every year...........and a playoff system would be so simple............
