WWE Wrestlemania 27 Discussion: Thoughts and Predictions

Nate ScacciaMar 31, 2011

Well Bleachers, WrestleMania 27 is only three days away and the excitement is building in the WWE Universe. WrestleMania 27 will feature many matches and storylines. I will discuss my views and opinions on the various matches and leave it to you, the readers, to comment with your own predictions and thoughts.

The Dark Match Battle Royal

WrestleMania always features a dark match before the show starts. This year, the match should be a Battle Royal. The superstars in these matches are usually jobbers and mid-carders, but this year there should be some big names in the match. Superstars left off the main card include Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, Chris Masters, Mark Henry, Ted DiBiase and Zack Ryder.

Who will win this dark match?

I would expect one of the superstars I listed above to win the match. It could be an interesting Battle Royal and the winner will probably be someone who is either heading into a storyline or in need of a boost. Look for Drew McIntyre or Chris Masters to get the win here.

Eight Man Tag Team Match (Big Show, Kane, Vladimir Kozlov, and Santino Marella versus The Corre)

There is not much to be said about this match. This match is on the card mainly to give the Tag Team Division a spot on the "Grandest Stage of Them All." That said, it still should be a decent match. It will be interesting to see what feuds and storylines come out of this match. Big Show may focus on Ezekiel Jackson or maybe Kane will take him out instead. Either way, I think the team of Show, Kane, Kozlov, and Marella pick up the win.

United States Championship Match (Sheamus versus Danial Bryan)

Sheamus finally ended his loosing streak when he won the U.S. Title against Daniel Bryan. Ever since then, Sheamus has been unstoppable and Bryan has been unable to get an edge on the Celtic Warrior. In this match, I expect to see a good back and forth match, with the fans hopefully seeing Bryan use some of his technical/submission style wrestling. Sheamus should get the win here and continue his run as United States Champion.

Mixed Tag Match (John Morrison, Trish Stratus, and Snooki versus Dolph Ziggler and LayCool)

The only match on the card for the diva's divison. There is no way that Trish Stratus or Snooki would lose this match. The WWE would not bring Trish back only to lose and would certainly not have the celebrity guest lose. Dolph and LayCool will lose and LayCool will probably blame Dolph Ziggler for it.

Rey Mysterio versus Cody Rhodes

I wish the WWE would have made this a mask versus mask match. Anyway, this match should be a good quick-pace match. Cody Rhodes finally gets his revenge in a match against Mysterio. Of course, Rey will be looking for some revenge of his own after the attacks by Cody Rhodes. This match should play out with Cody appearing dominant, only to have Rey Mysterio snag the win away from Rhodes. A quick finsher from Mysterio will get Rey the win he needs, while still allowing Cody to look strong.

Jerry Lawler versus Michael Cole (Special Referee: Stone Cold)

Another match with an obvious outcome. The match will start with Cole acting cocky and pushing Lawler around. He will continue to toy with Lawler until Jerry lets loose a couple of punches and basic moves on Cole. Jack Swagger will try and interfere, but Stone Cold will put an end to that. Lawler picks up the win, only to have Michael Cole complain the next night on Raw about how Lawler cheated.

Randy Orton versus CM Punk

Over the past month, Randy Orton has taken out every member of the Nexus except CM Punk. A few weeks ago, it looked like Randy would head into the match with momentum, but Punk has changed my outcome of this match. CM Punk has injured Orton's knee and I expect Punk to utilize the injury (along with distractions from the Nexus) to his advantage. Orton will lose the match, but still look strong after he fights of the Nexus and the injury, only to come up just short of the victory.

Undertaker versus Triple H (No Holds Barred)

What would WrestleMania be without The Undertaker and his streak? This year Triple H will take a shot at Undertaker and his undefeated streak. The No Holds Barred match type will give the illusion that Triple H has a better chance to win. Undertaker will not have to have a straight wrestling match, instead, he can bide his time outside the ring and let the match type pick up the slack. I would not expect anything close to Undertaker v. Shawn Michaels here. Undertaker will get the win, but there's always the idea of Triple H ending the streak to gain even more power backstage. This match may keep me guessing into Sunday.

WWE Championship Match (Miz versus John Cena)

There are so many questions surrounding this match. The main question is, "What impact will The Rock have on the match?" This is the first true toss-up of the night. On one hand, The Miz has been trying to gain attention on Raw lately. What better way to gain attention than to win the WWE Championship match? John Cena could come off as Superman yet again if he fends off The Rock and his distractions to win the Championship. As of today, I see The Miz coming away with the win. I don't think I can take another Cena title reign.

World Heavyweight Championship Match (Edge versus Albero Del Rio)

Alberto Del Rio has been on a roll since his Royal Rumble win. But to even the odds, Christian has returned and has been on a five win streak of his own. Alberto will have Brodus Clay in his corner, while Edge will have Christian backing him up. The interesting thing here is not who wins the match, but how the match is won. I would like to see Christian cost Edge his championship and then see an E&C feud. Alberto Del Rio will win regardless, then he can throw a celebration fiesta on Smackdown again.

Closing Statements

WrestleMania will be a good show yet again this year. This is an easy card to predict, but it should still grab your attention and keep you on the edge of your seats.
