Michael Wagner's Hawk Shots (News and Notes):

Chicago Blackhawks Claim Joakim Lindstrom

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they have claimed Joakim Lindstrom off of waivers from the Anaheim Ducks. The 24 year old Swede has appeared in 37 career NHL games with the Columbus Blue-Jackets in which he has posted eight points and 18 penalty minutes.

Last season in 24 games he scored career highs in goals with 3 and assists with 4. Lindstrom does not seem to figure into the Blackhawks NHL plans and will likely provide the Blackhawks with good AHL forward depth.

Lindstrom is still young and will be given an opportunity in the final preseason games to try and make the team, although unlikely. If Lindstrom wants to play for the Blackhawks this season he must put up a good showing in the final preseason games and get a strong start with Rockford.

Chicago Blackhawks defense-man Doug Janik Claimed by the Dallas Stars

The Chicago Blackhawks announced that Doug Janik was claimed off of waivers by the Dallas Stars. Janik played in 61 games last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning and posted four points and a -1. Janik had signed a contract with the Blackhawks during the off-season and was in the running for 6th/7th defense-man spot.

Chicago Blackhawks/Colorado Avalanche Preseason Finale

The Chicago Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche will finish off their preseasons in a two game series. Tonight the game will take place in Colorado and on Sunday the game will take place in Chicago.

Coach Denis Savard has not revealed the line ups for tonight's games but if he does with-in the next few hours I will update this article.

After Sundays game the Blackhawks will travel to Madison Square Garden where they will take on the New York Rangers to open the regular season.

  1. Just one question Michael...

What the hell was Ben Eager thinking? lol

    1. Who knows. General hatred for Sean Avery?

  2. lol...Avery is the man

  3. I gotta be honest I really do not get why they snagged Joakim Lindstrom. Here is a guy that could not cut it in Columbus.

    1. I'm not sure, a few people I have talked to said that he just didn't fit into Ken Hitchcock's system. We will see.

  4. Michael that is very possible. Hitch's system is not for everyone. Zherdev was a classic example of that.
