Greatest WrestleMania Match of All Time Tournament: Round 5 (The Finals)
What's up, ladies and gentlemen? My name is Eric Kanes and I am proud to announce that the "Greatest WrestleMania Match of All Time" tournament is coming to an end. In Round 4, the four bracket winners faced off against one other and after over 100 votes, only two matches remain.
Which matches from Round 4 made it to the final round? Let's find out:
Austin Bracket Winner - 1. Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels (WM 25) (44.6%)
vs.
Michaels Bracket Winner - 4. Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart (WM 13) (55.4%)
Rock Bracket Winner - 1. Steve Austin vs. The Rock (WM 17) (75%)
vs.
Henry Bracket Winner - 7. Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels (WM 21) (25%)
My thoughts?
Wow. I was not expecting Austin/Hart to beat Taker/Michaels at all. Austin/Hart is one of my top three favorite WrestleMania matches of all time (along with Rock/Austin at WM 17 and Taker/Michaels at WM 26) but I did not know that so many people saw the match. I was a little kid when the match took place and a lot of the current WWE fans were not even born at that point.
With the current generation of wrestling fans frequently regarding Taker/Michaels as the greatest match ever, I was in awe when it got edged out by Hart/Austin. I even had to re-check the voting. However, thankfully the much better match won (although I had both of these matches at *****).
As for Austin/Rock beating Angle/Michaels, what can I say? Once again, these are both ***** with Austin/Rock being a bit more psychological and Angle/Michaels being a bit more technical. However, once again, the better match simply won. It wasn't better by much but it featured two of the most popular wrestlers of all time clashing in a near-30-minute no-DQ match and it led to one of the greatest heel turns of all time.
Anyway, that's Round 4. In Round 5, things will work a little bit differently. Rather than in the comment section, the voting will be done on a poll. However, I want you guys to comment telling me why you voted for the match you voted for. Tell me what this match meant to you. The best comments will be featured in the next column that will be released the day before WrestleMania where the winner will be announced.
And without any further ado, let the voting begin.
