The college football world is not unique in being home to a cast of odd characters. Nor is it the only place where one can find the wildest stories and gossip.

Some of the bizarre information that has passed my way during the past month should be shared with the Bleacher Report community.

The most reasonable stories pertain to coaching changes. Always a hot topic when a team is not performing up to standard, it could be these 10 rumors contain a sliver of truth.

1. Phil Fulmer will be relieved as head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers, and he will be replaced by Duke head coach David Cutcliffe.

2. Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden will be replaced as head coach by former Clemson player Bobby Johnson, currently head coach at Vanderbilt.

3. West Virginia head coach Bill Stewart will be asked to step aside and be replaced by Tulsa head coach (and former WVU defensive coordinator) Todd Graham.

4. Syracuse head coach Greg Robinson will be asked to leave and will be replaced by Turner Gill, current head coach of Buffalo.

5. Louisville head coach Steve Kragthorpe will be removed and replaced by Jeff Brohm.

6. Washington head coach Ty Willingham will be released and replaced by Boise State head coach Chris Petersen.

7. Virginia head coach Al Groh will be terminated and replaced by Kansas State head coach (and former offensive coordinator at Virginia) Ron Prince.

8. Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz will be asked to step aside and will replaced by TCU head coach Gary Patterson.

9. Memphis head coach Tommy West will be released and replaced by Louisiana Tech head coach Derek Dooley.

10. Texas-El Paso head coach Mike Price will be released and replaced by former Miami head coach Larry Coker.

WOW!!! Every one of these make sense and have the connections to make them even more valid all the way down to Virginia's getting rid of one inept guy for a guy who can't even get his offense in gear against a sieve of a Louisville team (they really looked lost that night).

Back to my favorite, Tommy Bowden, my scenario with no substance yet making sense is that he goes to FSU and becomes an assistant and then takes over for Jimbo Fisher who may be more of an "interim head coach" if he even actually makes it to the point where does take over for Bobby, any chance?

Not so sure Ferentz is going anywhere. He turned down a ton of cash to go to the NFL and the Alumni and Boosters love him in Iowa as they actually give him credit for keeping it clean over there and that they're willing to do the trade off unlike the penitentiaries being run at some of the more prominent SEC schools which i'm not going to mention by name (but they met between the hedges last Saturday and had 19 arrests this past off season between them, many of the arrests were felonies).

Thanks for the intriguing and thought provoking article.

Thanks Mitch. I appreciate the fine words. Now, how long is it going to be before the Hurricanes ask Mark Richt to come home to Mama and save him from all of those horrible rumors of being replaced in Athens by Jim Grobe?

Some of these rumors and information are foolishness in my view, but worth a look when passed along.

Going to be tough to not give Randy Shannon every opportunity to get the ship righted as he's one heck of a recruiter and is running a tight ship. I haven't even heard of anyone breaking curfew. I think if you get below an 80 on a pop quiz you get suspended for game.

Baby Tate, you sure do your homework. Logical scenarios all. I think the highest percentages go with Fulmer and Stewart, with Bowden being 3rd. I would love to see Bobby Johnson get an opportunity like Clemson. He has proven his worth at Vandy as a head coach, and would do a fine job there. Are you sure Rich Rod is not headed back to WVU??? (That's sarcasm in case someone misses the joke.)

      Appreciate the input 12.

Bobby Johnson is from South Carolina and played at Clemson. Given the opportunity, I believe he'll come home to Mama. Then again, as a Clemson man himself, he knows how they can turn on you there. He might want to place a call from Nashville across state to Memphis to ask former Tiger headman Tommy West how quickly the Clemson folks can turn on you. Hero one minute, bum the next.

Advancing your saracastic comment one step further, I think Rodriguez is a victim of his own greed. He'll probably have to sacrifice his offense and go back to passing the ball more just to survive this season at Michigan. He looks kind of foolish for leaving West Virginia. As you well know, Les Miles is their main man and he told his alma mater "no thanks", and went back to Baton Rouge and supposedly had a "big laugh" on the telephone with old friends when he told them how much more money you can make in the SEC than at Michigan.

Tate, I agree with Mitch. All of these are very interesting thoughts, and all could very well happen.

I'd say that at least half are dead on and will take place. either remind us to check back or write a follow-up on this at season's end. This will be very interesting to see how it plays out.

Of course, barring some freak chance your predictions go south, you might not want to remind or follow-up. I'm guessing you will though.

Now, I'm just passing this along, these aren't my predictions.

The only prediction I'll make is this: If Steve Spurrier improves a little bit and wishes to retire in the next three years Carolina will make Steve Spurrier Junior the head coach. If Carolina stays no better than .500, then Junior will het a job somewhere else (like Skip Holtz did) and the Gamecock nation will reach out and ask former South Carolina star Mark Dantonio (now head coach at Michigan State) to come home to Mama, and with the money we'll pay, he'll come home. If that happens, the Rooster fans will begin counting the number of helmets separated from the other team's players each game.

Oh, by the way Timothy, you heard that Nick Saban will be leaving November 1st for a mission trip to Africa for the rest of his life didn't you?

I've heard more about Lane Kiffin replacing Greg Robinson than Turner Gill. Syracuse's AD used to be at USC and knows Kiffin well.

I can only imagine how bad it could get if Lane Kiffin replaces Greg Robinson. Perhaps when Kiffin is finished they could replace him with Bill Callahan.

David Cutcliffe going to Tennessee is a move most Gator fans, like me, would dread. Thank God there are no more of Archie’s boys waiting in the wings.

Coker to UTEP? What's the scoop on that one, BT?

Here's my prediction... Petrino wears out his welcome at Arkansas, very quickly, and Jerry Jones attempts to work his magic with a top-notch replacement...

Coker is still one of the top winning coaches, no reason he can't compete in Texas, he used to live in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Petrino '08 is a disaster, he'll have to turn that around next year or some of the Faculty Administration could find themselves out of a job along with the coach.

That bad news for Tennessee is actually good news. They'll probably win enough games to keep Fulmer on the job. Carolina is in a fistfight right now with them for that Liberty Bowl game on 1/2/09.

Anybody would be better than Greg Robinson at Syracuse. He took a very proud program and put it right in the toilet. Everything he touched, from the uniforms on down has absolutely sucked. The Carrier Dome used to be a tough place to play, SU used to have solid players and NFL talent all over the place, and now they're such a parody its sad.

Michael, you are totally correct and I feel when the movie portraying the life of Ernie Davis comes out this year there will be more interest in the Orange.

Two former Syracuse players should get more involved in helping recruit, Jim Brown and Larry Csonka. You never know what a 16 year old might do if he picks up the phone and on the other end a voice says "Hi, I'm Jim Brown, why don't you play for my school"?

Or how about if Donovan McNabb, Marvin Harrison, or Dwight Freeney call??? Most high school players don't have a true sense of history, and older legends may be a tougher sell than the recent ones.

Syracuse doesn't need another pros to college type coach. They need a coach who can recruit NY-NJ-PA-CT like they used to and pluck a McNabb from Chicago or a few players from Florida. They have let players like Ray Rice, Knowshon Moreno, Will Hill, Brian Toal either slip away or leave the region to go to other schools.

Logical scenarios all, but I don't see Stewart or Kragthorpe leaving in the immediate future. Kragthorpe will get more time, and have you seen Stewart's buyout? Yeesh.

Cutcliffe to UT and Johnson to Clemson make sense, but it also wouldn't surprise me to see Johnson stick out the rest of his career at Vandy.

As for Syracuse, I'm with David: Kiffin seems like a logical choice. But Kiffin could also probably be considered for Willingham's vacant spot, and Gill is a decent candidate for any position.

I do expect Peterson to jump ship soon, especially if the Broncos have another BCS-caliber season.

      Thanks James. Appreciate that.

Some of you realize my favorite pro football team has been the Oakland Raiders since they were invented in 1960. I can only tell you that I would like to wish Lane Kiffin and Bill Callahan on my two worst enemies. I don't wish anything that bad to happen to Syracuse.

      I just had a thought.....Lane Kiffin to Clemson......yeah, that's the ticket............

      Arkansas! That's interesting.
It would be a pretty quick abort to see Petrino fired after just two seasons, although with his track record I suppose it's fairly likely that he would just jump ship under his own volition.
To me, Arkansas just never seemed like a good fit for him. He would seem like a good man for a Pac 10 team like Washington, in a league where there's more room for quick improvement.

I sure hope he bails and Arkansas gets someone like Kiffin. We need fewer good coaches in the SEC.

Yup. Iowa is not looking good. Blowing a lead to Northwestern, and not to mention their previous losing seasons and unsuccessful seasons. Iowa is going downhill...there goes another Big 10 team. At least Illinois and a couple other of previously bad teams are on the rise in order to take the place of the original powerhouses.

I know you read my article yesterday about "who's the Boss?" and it revealed that one of the computer polls has Northwestern #2 in the country and another had them #5. According to them, Penn St and Ohio St were no where to be found. I guess we should all bow to the mighty Northwestern, kings of college football.

That's awful. You should encourage the Mountaineer fans to expect more than mediocrity. I have an old friend who lives up in the hills named Country Joe Barnes, and he thought West Virginia would play Southern California for the national championship. I need to call on him and see what he believes is going to happen now that it's October.

I understand its part of the business, but I don't see how Tennessee fans could dump Fulmer. He's got a good overall record and won a NC for them. It's a tough conference, that's the main problem. I guess the loyalty they show to their country music heroes doesn't extend to football coaches.

On the other hand, I don't see how Clemson keeps Bowden. He seems like a consistent underachiever. He's had a lot of talent in a conference that has a lot of down teams.

Not sure I really get the Shirley MacLaine joke, sorry.

      You old Searcher you.

Clemson is hit and miss about Bowden, he'll probably survive for another year if he can beat Carolina in the last game and then go to the Peach Bowl. Clemson loves the Peach Bowl because you can drive down on gameday and can drive home from the game that night and not have to spend the night.

Tennessee doesn't know what to do with Fulmer. He may have to release the new Off Coord Clawson, and blame him for all of his troubles, in order to save himself.

      Thanks for the comment Lou.

To replace Fulmer at Tennessee it would take someone like Cutcliffe. He's got almost as much history with Tennessee as Fulmer, but as a resident of Knoxville, the vibe surrounding Fulmer's job secutiry isn't as heated as it was at this time last year. Fulmer can still right the ship, if only he can find someone to play quarterback.

Dont's expect #4 to come to fruition. Turner's daughters are of an age they would like to finish school in one spot. Turner played at Nebraska where Bob Deveney took an also ran and exited after two national championsips. After a unstellar pro career and after some minor league base ball he reutrned to coach at Nebraska. Turner is a good enough coach he could make Buffalo into a power.

Put his shoes on for a moment: become a bigger than life hero at Buffalo and let my daugters stay in one place to graduate high school OR become the next coach at Syracuse and risk being drummed out after three years and force my youngest daughter to move in middle school and high school.

Get ready to pass over your hat in a few months, I may be asked to eat one because I say no chance he takes the Syracuse job.

All he has to do is win a few conference titles and take them to a few bowls and attendance would pick up followed by donations. Devaney got a basketball / gymnastics / wrestiling / indoor track / pool complex named after him while he was still AD. Osborne got a stadium addition / weight training / study complex / dinnning all named after him. It may be cold in Buffalo, but not too cold to become a legend. Turner may have a similar difficult decision with a more major name in a few years.

Missouri got punished in the polls for not thrubbing Buffalo. Maybe Nebraska is lucky they are not on the schedule.

If he decides to spend 4-5 more years languishing in MAC obscurity for the sake of his younger daughter staying in the same place, more power to him.

If it were me - and I'm a selfish childless male, mind you - I'd tell my daughter my new salary at a BCS school could buy her a car so nice she'd have to beat potential friends off with a stick.

while cutcliffe is a great under a headset i think you need more of a recruiter at tennessee. would love to see tenn give a shot to someone like will "boom mf'er" muschamp.

Justin, I don't think Cutcliffe would leave Duke for Tennessee. Too much history with him there, too much pressure with no real reward. Win 10 or leave. If he starts winning 7 games a year at Duke he'll become a national hero.

Tenn is a tough job right now. It's a great national power but it competes against other great national powers, despite what the computer polls say. I'm not sure you can survive at Tennessee winning less than 10 games a year, and that could be too much stress and trouble for a lot of candidates. They would need someone like Peterson of Boise State to have the energy and youth, or someone like Jim Harbaugh who is an up and coming star among coaching circles. Looking at the NFL for a coach to step down, could be an opportunity for someone, you never know. It has been 32 years since Tennessee had a non-Tennessee alum as head coach, might be time to look outside.

I realize that as an LSU man, you recommend Gerry Di Nardo for the job at Tennessee.

      Thanks for the comment Justin!

Each of these ideas makes sense. Personally, I see Lane Kiffen grabbing the Washington job. He has tons of west coast recruiting connections from his time as USC's recruiting coordinator and thus he is a natural fit in the Pac-10. Only question is whether Washington is too destitute to be an attractive job at this point.

Kiffen ain't going to Syracuse. That's a blackhole at this point, and he has no east coast ties whatsoever. The AD will definitely make the call, but he'll get a "thanks but no thanks."

Yeah, I wouldn't actually mind if Lane Kiffin ended up at UW, god knows we need help in the recruiting battles on the West Coast and those connections in California would be a great help.

You could dip Barney the Dinosaur in orange paint, replace Fulmer with him and nobody would notice the difference.

If your #6 comes true, Kiffin might do well at Bosie St., but they need to rip up that damn blue turf!

I thought the photo was referring to McClain galloping 99 undergraduates through her dorm room one night 8^D

    Thanks J.C.

Looks like you are good luck for the Dodgers. Gonna make a lot of Cub fans upset all over the country.

    Appreciate it!

Skip has a good future ahead of him.

I wonder if you're saying that as a good thing for Notre Dame, or Southern California?

Thanks for checking in Lisa, I always like to see your comments.

For what it's worth, I think you're dead on about Cutcliffe not wanting to leave Duke for Knoxville. But if he does come here, the fact that he was behind the headset for both Peyton and Eli would make him more than fine as a recruiter, methinks. Don't forget that Terrelle Pryor had Tennessee on his list before Cutcliffe left.

And it's probably worth even less, but the Vol Blogosphere loves, loves, LOVES Muschamp. Not sure what those who actually make decisions would think. Cutcliffe makes more sense than the "Spurrier to Knoxville!" stuff I've seen in the last few days.

But it should still be remembered that the Vols have to lose two more games before Fulmer's contract isn't automatically extended. A six million dollar buyout is on the other end of that argument.

Spurrier to Knoxville? To paraphrase Lisa's comment, you might as well hire Lou Holtz. You need a younger man to compete on the recruiting trail. When Steve Spurrier set foot on the Florida campus as a freshman, John F. Kennedy was President of the USA. That's a long time ago.

I know you keep a finger on the pulse of everything in Knoxville and I appreciate your comment as always.

I'm not sure where you heard about Brohm being promoted at Louisville, but unfortunately for fans of the Ville, AD Tom Jurich has a man crush on Steve Kragthorpe. He's repeatedly said Kragthorpe is going to continue to "Build the program right" and that 7-8 wins are the goal for the next few years. 7-8 wins with the current schedule isn't enough, I think, and Louisville has the best assistant coach in the country right now in Ron English.

Ron English is at Louisville, that's interesting. Yes, he's a man that bears watching in the future.

Your man Kragthorpe is an 8-4 man, you all had more than that with Petrino.

      Thanks for the comment.

Interesting. Are you hearing any of these as rumors?

Gary Pinkel or Dave Christensen leave Mizzou for Washington.
Brian Kelly gets one of the bigger gigs (WVU, Louisville).
    Will Muschamp goes to Clemson.

On a side note, if I'm Washington, I'd rather take Bronco Mendenhall than Chris Petersen if I can. IMHO, they have a very nice candidate pool to choose from and it's the best job on the market this year.

Brian Kelly will move on up. He's a good one, just paying his dues.

Clemson is so tore up over everything I doubt they know what they're doing now. Muschamp is a good choice for anyone. Pinkel is a good coach, not sure how long he can remain unbeaten but, he's a good choice to interview. Can't see him leaving Missouri for Washington because he's a midwestern guy having played at Kent State with Nick Saban.

Now, I'm saying the following in all earnestness because I don't know: Can you leave a job at BYU as a headcoach for another school or would that have a negative effect on your personal life? I know you can be chased off, and assistants can come and go, but I wonder about a headcoach walking away from there.

Here's an odd one. Rumor out of Missouri is that Nebraska is a dirty team and should be investigated for player behavior on the field. Is that a message from the 90s that was lost in translation?

In relation to the Washington coaching job, I hear Lane Kiffin's name being thrown around as a possible replacement for Willingham. Makes sense.
