UFC News: Nate Marquardt Would Like to Shut Michael Bisping Up

Sal DeRoseMar 19, 2011

Mixed Martial Arts fighters and personnel alike have voiced their opinion about the British fighter, Michael Bisping (21-3-0), and the actions following his Ultimate Fighting Championship 127 fight against Jorge Rivera.

Now you can add one more middleweight into that discussion—Nate "The Great" Marquardt (30-10-2).

"I would just love to fight that guy. Just to punch him in his mouth, shut him up, that'd be nice," Marquardt said after the UFC's open workouts.

"He's a total punk, no respect," Marquardt said.

Following his UFC 127 bout, Bisping spit at Rivera's corner and during the bout between the two, Bisping threw an illegal knee while Rivera was down. His illegal knee lost him a point, but didn't make a difference as he ended the fight in the second round by TKO.

Bisping's actions were in retaliation to Rivera's comments and a series of spoof videos aimed at Bisping.

Bisping's actions following the fight has drawn the ire of everyone and even drew the attention of Ultimate Fighting Championship's president, Dana White. White has reportedly revoked Bisping's bonus from his UFC 127 fight. The bonus could be anywhere from $15,000 to $150,000.

“What I did to Michael Bisping…the fighters who fight for me know exactly what I am saying when I say this, Mike Bisping did not get a bonus. He was not bonused for his fight and believe me that hurts worse than anything else that anybody could have done,” said White to MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani.

Top contender Maruqardt isn't the only middleweight that would want to fight the Brit. Chael Sonnen (25-11-1) would also relish the opportunity to take him on.

"If you get a chance to talk with him, please mention to your idiot-in-residence Michael Spitsbing it’ll be a little tougher to knee ME in the head when I’m charging at him like a runaway train and mincing him through the fence like a boiled potato, should we ever have the pleasure of each other’s company for a few (VERY few) moments in the Octagon," Sonnen said in an e-mail to UFC matchmaker, Joe Silva.

Not only that, Sonnen has made it known he won't take any of the antics Bisping brought to the cage at UFC 127.

"Oh, and I’d suggest to him being a little careful about spitting on any of MY cornermen, since any one of them can beat him up as badly as I can. Thanks ever so much," Sonnen said.

As of late, Sonnen has been known to run his mouth better than anyone, especially calling out UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva. Sonnen had his contract put on hold by the UFC after his money laundering conviction.

Even Anderson Silva has thrown his name into the ring if Bisping were to reach the No. 1 contender status.

"Michael Bisping is very impressive. He’s been in the UFC for a long time now and beaten some very good fighters. It would be an honour to fight him, perhaps in England," Silva said to ESPN UK.

It seems that Bisping has no shortage of fights in the near future at the middleweight level.
