After the success of my first "What Would Happen If" article, I have decided to revive it with a part 2.
1. What would have happened if Antonio Puerta were still alive?
One of the saddest stories in recent times, left-winger Antonio Puerta, age 22, died three days after Sevilla began its 2007-2008 season. The young Spaniard was very promising. He had received interest from clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal, and Real Madrid. If he were still alive, it's very likely that he could've gone to Real Madrid or stayed at Sevilla. However, we will never know now. RIP Puerta.
2. What would have happened if Ryan Giggs had gone to Manchester City?
Believe it or not, Manchester United was not the first club to have interest in Ryan Giggs. No, no, my friends - the first club to have interest in the Welsh winger/forward was Manchester City. The only reason Giggs went to United was because Sir Alex Ferguson personally went to Giggs's house and convinced him to sign for United. Now what if Fergie didn't have the insight to do that? Knowing Giggs, he'd probably still be at Manchester City and they'd be a fairly better team. Boy am I glad he didn't go to City.
3. What would have happened if Giuseppe Rossi had decided to join the USA national team?
You see the yellowguy in the picture? That is Giuseppe Rossi, the American-Italian born in New Jersey. Now I must ask, why would he choose to be Italian rather than American? I don't understand it. Anyways, he was asked to join with the USA during the World Cup in 2006, but he decided to play for Italy. He has played for Italy ever since. Now, lets imagine he decided to be a full American. Our attack would be greatly strengthened. Rossi, Donovan, and all the other great forwards would make the USA a great striking team.
4. What would have happened if Landon Donovan had stayed overseas?
Perhaps the best American striker around, Landon Donovan is a success story in MLS. After joinin the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2005, he has been the star of America. However, his career wasn't always that promising. From 2001 to 2005, Donovan spent his time with the German club, Bayer Leverkusen. His time there did not go well. He only made seven appearances and scored no goals. Had he stayed there, his career could have ended before it began. He was simply awful then. His move to MLS was the best thing to happen to him and the league.
5. What would have happened if Zidane had stayed at Juventus?
Zinedine Zidane is or was, in my opinion, one of the best French footballers in the world. Excellent speed, skill, and ability to score goals. He joined Juventus from Bordeaux in 1996, right after they won the Champions League. He was fairly successful there. He won Scudetto twice, won the Intercontinental Cup once, and made it to two Champions League finals. However, he went to Real Madrid in 2002 and didn't win much after. Now what if he stayed at Juventus? I'd be willing to say that Juventus would've won more and Zidane would've been more successful.
ps. Remember his infamous headbutt in the World Cup final? Well, that's not the first time he got sent off for headbutting someone. During a Champions League match against Hamburger SV in 2001, he got upset and headbutted Hamburger's Jochen Kientz. Funny how he finds ways to end his career at different teams and clubs.
Bonus question: What would have happened if Mike Ashley had never took over Newcastle?
In my first "What Would Have Happened If" article, Yoosof Farahasked me this question. It's a very interesting question. English billionaire, Mike Ashley bought Newcastle United in 2007. Since then the club has had troubled times. I think it's safe to say that Ashley is in no way fit to be an owner of a football club. Anyways, had he not bought Newcastle, the club would probably have been just a bit more successful last season. Kevin Keegan would still be in charge. In my opinion, the Toons would be a lot better off than they are now had Ashley not bought them.
Well, there you have it for now. A few "what would have happened if" questions for you to ask yourself. There are a lot more to ask. If you have any more, just let me know with a comment. If I get enough, I might make a part three.
