Rashad Evans: I'm Not Gonna Train with Greg Jackson Anymore, Ever Again

Nick CaronMar 16, 2011

Rashad Evans may have just become Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White's new favorite fighter.

The speculation that Rashad Evans will not fight Jon Jones can now be put to rest as Evans himself has gone out of his way to not only prove that he will fight anyone, but that he wants the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship at all costs—even if it means leaving his coach, Greg Jackson.

BJPenn.com is reporting that Evans is indeed ready to make the move.

“What’s gonna happen is, the team’s are gonna split apart. If I know there’s a chance I’m training with Jon and Greg’s training with Jon, I’m not gonna train with Greg any more, EVER again," Evans declared.

Dana White suggested that Evans and Jones get past their supposed friendship and do what it takes to get into the cage against one another should the situation arise. Evans seems to have taken White's words to heart.

"I need my coach to always be able to coach me no matter who I’m gonna fight. If he can’t do that, I don’t feel that there’s a use for me having him as my coach,” Evans bluntly stated.

Situations like this have arisen in the past and it is usually the challenger, in this case Rashad Evans, who leaves the camp to make room for the champion. Still, it's rare that the situation becomes this well-known by the media and especially by fans.

Of course, this whole saga depends on Jon Jones defeating Mauricio "Shogun" Rua on Saturday at UFC 128.

If he does and is able to become the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, look for Rashad Evans to join a new camp while Greg Jackson's team continues to work with the world's top-ranked light heavyweight mixed martial artist, Jon Jones.
