WrestleMania 27: Makings of the Worst WrestleMania of Them All?

Cody SlovenskyContributor IIMarch 11, 2011

The Super Bowl of sports entertainment. The biggest event of the year. Where stars are born. There are many sayings that relate to WrestleMania, but is "waste of money" the phrase for this year's event?

Throughout the years some of the most legendary matches have taken place at WrestleMania. Each year has that one moment that really sticks out.

Is WrestleMania 27's biggest moment going to be The Rock and John Cena shaking hands to end the show? Is it going to be the year that The Undertaker's streak is ended? Nobody knows, but one thing is for sure: This year's event is lacking in the wow department.

It is nice to see some legends return to take part at WrestleMania, but the capacity they are being utilized in isn't what most would want to see. The Rock as the host? Stone Cold Steve Austin a special referee?

It's cool to see them there but that's not how they should be used. When the third biggest match on the card is Jerry "The King" Lawler vs. Michael Cole, you know that you have a problem.

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk will be an entertaining match, but seeing an injured Rey Mysterio vs. Cody Rhodes isn't a WrestleMania-caliber match.

Stars like John Morrison should get more of a spotlight. Morrison vs. Daniel Bryan would go down as an amazing match. If WWE were smart they would use more WCW talent in this event, or at least highlight the history of WCW.

For the Hall of Fame, where are Lex Luger and Bill Goldberg? Macho Man? Dean Malenko? Ultimo Dragon?

Something needs to happen in the next couple of weeks, or this event could truly flop. Adding Justin Bieber to the mix won't help WWE's cause, it'll prove this is purely for entertainment and not about good ol' fashioned wrestling.

Hopefully I'm wrong and this event will be one to remember. If not, then WWE PPV buys will drop even lower.
