EPL Preview: Liverpool Looking To Inflict More Misery on Man Utd

Joe LazarMar 5, 2011

Liverpool vs Man Utd

The cross-town rivals will be getting back together again this weekend and this match certainly becomes extremely important in the context of the title. Even though Liverpool do not have the chance of winning the title, they do, however, have the chance of choosing the destination of it. Manchester United were recently beaten by Chelsea and another loss at Anfield could compound their miseries.

Liverpool certainly have the capability to do that, especially at Anfield having won a number of times in the last few years. Another repeat of it could not only put a dent on Man Utd's title hopes, but also improve Liverpool's chances of finishing in the top four, which as of now looks very bleak.

The chances of Liverpool getting a victory over Man Utd have been damaged slightly after the heavy loss to West Ham last weekend. The demoralising loss to the bottom club has meant that Man Utd are definitely the favourites going into the match.

They will be, however, without both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic for the match. Wes Brown and Chris Smalling are expected to deputise, which will be something that Luis Suarez will be looking to take advantage of.

Wolverhampton vs Tottenham

After the fantastic win over AC Milan at the San Siro, Spurs came crashing down to a horror defeat at the hands of Blackpool. Harry Redknapp will be aware of the fact that if they do not win the match against Wolverhampton, then they would have to be conceding the fourth position to Chelsea. This after a one point lead has formed between the two, which might be extremely small at present, but given the fact that Chelsea will be recovering from their poor form sometime or the other, it is going to be significant.

Wolverhampton, on the other hand, secured a vital win over Blackpool, but the manner of the victory will be the thing that would have pleased Mick McCarthy the most. The thumping 4-0 victory suggested everything other than relegation form that the Premier League strugglers have been experiencing.

They will be looking to conjure the great escape with the match against Tottenham. However, they will be without influential midfielder Jamie O'Hara, who is ineligible to face his parent club. Even though this might be a considerable loss for Mick McCarthy, Harry Redknapp will have to deal with quite a lot of injuries on his part.

Blackpool vs Chelsea

The remarkable comeback victory over Man Utd has firmly put Chelsea back into the hunt for the Champions League places and they will be looking to consolidate their position with another victory over Blackpool.

Blackpool come into this one on the back of a heavy defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton and they will be more than relieved to get back to Bloomfield road. It was not long ago that they soundly thrashed Tottenham 4-0 and Ian Holloway believes that such kind of a result is never far away from his side.

However, they will be meeting an opponent which has the quality of winning the title, although they have not challenged for it this time around. He will be aware that if Blackpool do not remain fully committed, then they could be at the wrong end of another thrashing.

Chelsea, meanwhile, seem to be getting their form back, although this is a time where early conclusions can be made, but the signs definitely seen to be there within the team. Fernando Torres looks to be getting back to his old self. He is expected to be paired with Didier Drogba up front, with Nicolas Anelka dropping to the bench.
