Lyman Good: Exclusive B/R Interview and Video with the Former Bellator Champion

Andrew MahlmannMar 3, 2011

Last October, Lyman Good lost to fast-rising star and wrestling phenom, Ben Askren.

In the fight with Askren, the then-champion Good relinquished the Bellator Welterweight title and received the first loss of his career.

Now heading into the stacked welterweight tournament for Bellator Season 4, Good has revenge and the reclamation of his throne on his mind.

Excited for the Bellator season, Good says the tournament format is a chance for fighters to "prove to the world that they are the best and that they are at the top of the food chain."

His first step, however, is getting past dangerous opponent Chris Lozano on Saturday.

Lozano's last performance was his finest, as he dispatched former UFC fighter and international star Yoshiyuki Yoshida via second-round TKO.

Good is not discouraged by the performance as he sees it as merely the natural progress and maturation of a relatively young and upcoming fighter.

The same process and development that he himself is going through.

Already a former champion at just 25 years old, Good is learning from his mistakes in the Askren fight.

Although working his wrestling, most importantly, Good says he needs to "let loose, let the hands go," and that his trainers are helping him with making sure he pulls the trigger in the right situations.

That is the kind of training that bodes well for fans, especially in regards to his upcoming fight with Lozano.

Lozano is primarily a stand-up fighter and Good expects the confrontation to be a "stand-up war." All six of Lozano's victories have come by way of KO/TKO and half of Good's 10 victories have ended in the same fashion.

Growing up in a rough neighborhood in New York City, Good is genuinely committed to making the most of his skills and opportunities.

While acknowledging the occasional roles of "heroes" and "villains" in the fight game, Good says he is not the type of person to talk trash.

"The only person I would ever trash talk would be myself, you know, to critique myself."

A humble and dedicated professional, Good is the kind of fighter that you can expect to see around for some time.

Lyman Good vs. Chris Lozano will be live on MTV2 . Saturday @ 9 p.m. ET.
