Ben Roethlisberger, Serena Williams, The Fighter and B/R's Weekend Swagger Buzz

Ryan RudnanskyJun 1, 2018

Ben Roethlisberger is reportedly set to get married in the summer.

The star Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback may have missed out on another ring in this year's Super Bowl, but it looks like he doesn't plan on missing out on getting married.

Serena Williams has been reported as partying it up and looking fashionably fashionable after finally getting her cast removed seven months after her win at Wimbledon.

And The Fighter, starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, ultimately didn't win Best Picture at the 83rd annual Academy Awards, but Bale won Best Supporting Actor in an emotional moment.

The Oscars this year just so happened to be covered by ESPN reporter Erin Andrews, who struck a deal with the network to allow her to cover entertainment intermittently.

It's a wild and wacky world we're living in, everybody, and sports always has a way of reminding us of this.

This slideshow commemorates the latest breaking news in the wacky world of sports swagger.

Enjoy.

Angelina Pivarnivck TNA: Jersey Shore Star Ready to Rumble at TNA Impact

1 of 12

Angelina Pivarnivck, a former cast member of MTV's hit show Jersey Shore, reportedly is set to appear in two episodes of TNA iMPact.

Set to appear on March 3 and March 10, Pivarnivck will partner up with the wrestling duo "The Shore," comprised of Cookie and Robbie E, and take her "talents" to the wrestling ring.

Pivarnivck, along with "The Shore," share a common hatred of former cast member J-Woww, who Pivarnivck will reportedly challenge to set inside the ring for a full-on brawl for all the nation to see.

Last October, J-Woww dominated Cookie at TNA, pounding away at her and her Snooki resemblance.

Maybe Pivarnivck will avenge Cookie's defeat.

This continues a long line of former reality show stars that step inside the ring to duke it out, showing that a little entertainment value goes a long way at TNA.

Pivarnivck should have her fair share of supporters as she gets set to challenge J-Woww, a controversial figure among controversial figures in Jersey Shore, the show that proved having a horrible personality and a loud mouth gains TV ratings like none other.

A reality show star combined with the buzz surrounding wrestling?

Sounds like a ratings boost if I ever saw one.

So, join in reality TV and wrestling fans alike, this one's sure to stir up more hateful insults, knockdowns, and rivalries ever so prevalent in the entertainment industry.

LA Lakers: There's a New Jack in Town

2 of 12

Move over Jack Nicholson, there's a new Jack in town.

The Jack in the Box spokesman/make-believe person was in attendance at the LA Lakers game on Friday when they hosted the Clippers.

And, by the looks of things, he's already starting to create more buzz than famed actor Jack Nicholson.

The fast food frontman seen in all the Jack in the Box commercials wasn't hard to find in the Lakers' 108-95 win on Friday: he has a big round head, a top hat, and always smiles.

He even appeared with his son at the game, sporting a cool pair of shades while immersed with the Lakers cheerleaders.

If this is the new Lakers mascot, I love the idea, Jerry Buss.

While it's probably hard for your players to concentrate with him sitting there smiling at them all the time, it will soon bring a light-hearted feel to the squad, something they desperately need after their play has raised questions this year.

I mean, I didn't see the players' reactions to Mr. Jack in the Box, but I don't see how they can keep from busting up.

You want a sure-fire way to distract an opponent while shooting free throws?

Just plop your new mascot right behind the hoop, beaming at said opponent as he tries to remain serious and focused.

It's guaranteed to work.

The best mascot ever?

Probably.

NHRA Internationals 2011: Former Pitcher Randy Johnson Finds a New Hobby at NHRA

3 of 12

Former MLB pitcher Randy Johnson apparently has a hobby beyond baseball, and it's photographing motorsports.

Johnson got behind the camera at Auto Club Raceway Saturday, snapping shots of Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars from the starting line.

Johnson, who previously shot a NASCAR race in Phoenix, developed a love for photography after majoring in photojournalism at USC, where he shot for the student newspaper.

Says Johnson: “It’s adrenaline. When one of those cars goes by I want to grab a baseball and throw it through a brick wall. It’s been a pleasure to come out here and meet some of the drivers and take it all in.”

Now we know the secret to how Johnson threw 100 miles per hour in the big leagues.

I'm guessing after a while his managers would just keep racing on in the clubhouse all day long to rev Johnson up as much as possible.

Remember the day Johnson killed a flying bird with a baseball?

I think we all know what inspired the velocity to make that happen.

All I wanna know is, why haven't we at Bleacher Report hired Randy Johnson?

That's it, I'm getting on the phone to him right now.

Now, if I could only find his phone number...

Mila Kunis: Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Chats It Up with Kunis at Oscars Party

4 of 12

There are some sure things we can count on in this world.

Football will always be played even in the midst of an Apocalypse.

The Oscar award will never change from being a man with no features or personality.

And if you win a Super Bowl, you are guaranteed to land a hot chick.

This is the world Green Pay Packers star QB Aaron Rodgers is living in right now.

Just removed from his first Super Bowl win, Rodgers reportedly was flirting up a storm with Black Swan actress and lovelylite Mila Kunis.

"Sources" had Rodgers and Kunis mingling and sipping champagne together, keeping to themselves for a good while before friends arrived at the Circa Hollywood Dominos Oscars party in Los Angeles.

One source reportedly said Kunis was "very keen" on talking to Rodgers and he was soaking up the attention.

Rodgers was previously linked to Gossip Girls star Jessica Szohr before.

I'm guessing he split with her after he realized he could get basically anyone he wanted.

Sorry Big Ben, I know you are slated to marry, but Rodgers still has you beat.

Matt Barkley: USC QB's Tweet Draws Ire for Stance Against Gay Marriage

It only took three letters for USC quarterback Matt Barkley to bring an onslaught upon himself on Twitter after posting a comment about gay marriage on Feb. 23.

It wasn't the body of the message that was blasted, it was the three letters before the message that drew ire.

On Feb. 23, Barkley  tweeted, "Smh.. “@YahooNews: Gov't says it won't defend constitutionality of law that bans recognition of same-sex marriage: http://yhoo.it/hUSDca”

Those three letters before, "S-M-H," stand for "shaking my head."

In other words, Barkley is evidently against gay marriage in the United States of America.

After posting the tweet, he received one notable tweet right away:

@MattBarkley “SMH”?? really? ur a homophobe? did not know this about you.. how disappointing to learn it.

One person actually tried to notify coach Lane Kiffin of Barkley's tweet:

@Lane_Kiffin r u aware that ur QB is tweeting homophobia today? better get a handle on it before the media picks it up

"Better get a handle on it before the media picks it up?"

Too late.

Barkley's tweet has made the rounds around the Web already, picked up by numerous sites.

Responding to the lashing out, Barkley tweeted, "look bro, I’m not discriminating and I’m not a homophobe. I’m standing up for what I believe. Cool down.."

On such a divisive topic, Barkley sure knows how to draw attention.

But was he wrong to voice his opinion?

I don't think so.

It wasn't like he was bashing the gay community or anything of the sort, he simply stated his opinion.

He may need to think about hiring a PR guy, but nothing he did was inherently wrong.

Whether you disagree with it or not, it was his opinion and he was only exhibiting freedom of speech, which, as far as I'm aware, is still protected by the Constitution.

Serena Williams: Tennis Champ Has Some Fun at Oscars After Cast Comes off Foot

6 of 12

Tennis champ Serena Williams, who cut her foot on broken glass seven months ago following her Wimblebon victory, has finally gotten her cast taken off her foot and will begin training "right way," according to the NY Post.

Williams was recently seen attending the WME pre-Oscar party in Brentwood Friday night, wearing flat shoes.

She said she is "so happy" and intends on being ready for the French Open in May.

She said she is going to start gearing up for the event and has tried to "stay positive" after the unfortunate accident.

As for me, I can't stop thinking about how she managed to injury herself after winning Wimbledon.

In my mind, there is only one logical explanation: the tennis Gods are unhappy with her win.

Maybe they wanted Venus to win instead of Serena and simply got them confused.

Either way, I'd start developing some superstitions right now if I was Serena; stepping on glass right after winning a title seems a bit suspicious to me.

Right now, she's focused on when she will be able to wear heels again.

For now, she appears on the mend, both physically and emotionally.

Reported as partying it up while wearing a dashing wardrobe, Williams will relax for now, which she clearly has no problem doing.

Ben Roethlisberger Wedding: Steelers QB Has a New Ring to Give Someone

7 of 12

TMZ has come out with a copy of a Ben Roethlisberger wedding invitation, and everyone is going crazy.

According to the invitation, the well-known Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback is set to marry Ashley Harlan on July 23, 2011, in Pittsburgh, PA.

No word yet on where exactly it will be held, but I'm guessing TMZ will uncover that in about a day's time.

Roethlisberger has had his share of personal troubles in the last year or so, being accused of rape by a college student in early 2010.

His partying ways have also been well-documented throughout the years, with plenty of photo evidence to prove he's a drinker and a ladies man.

Although he wasn't able to capture a Super Bowl this year against the Green Bay Packers, at least it seems he's settling down a bit on the outside.

But, then again, it's his partying ways that won him two rings with the Steelers (he admitted it was a regular thing before games when it was reported he and teammates went out to a piano bar before the Super Bowl).

All I wanna know about the wedding is, will there be a piano bar, attended by  Stevie Wonder and Charles Barkley?

If not, count me out, I'm going to a piano bar, damn it.

Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson: Yankees Scandal to Be Uncovered in Film

8 of 12

It's one thing to wife-swap with your teammate, have second thoughts, and remarry.

It's another thing to get exposed by filmmakers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in a movie.

Affleck and Damon, noted Boston Red Sox fans, are reportedly preparing a script based on when Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson swapped wives in 1972, only for Kekich to retract and remarry while Peterson remained with his wife.

In the words of Affleck himself, via the NY Post: "I've come to have a little more respect for the Yankees. There are some of those guys . . . that look like good guys . . . But as an institution? Disdain. Contempt." About the movie's subject matter, he said: "Guys [bleep]ing each others' wives—that's those Yankees."

Although Peterson hasn't been mentioned as having a problem with it, Kekich reportedly is not exactly being helpful, washing his hands of the film at the moment, apparently "panic-striken."

Reportedly even the entire Yankees organization is keeping mum about it.

I don't blame them; it's one thing for a scandal to be uncovered and shed bad light on the organization, it's quite another for it to be brought on by Red Sox fans.

And so continues the historic rivalry.

You want a good movie based on a true story?

How about Affleck and Damon vs. the New York Yankees?

Erin Andrews: Is ESPN Reporter Set to Retire from Sports for Good?

9 of 12

Last year ESPN was in danger of losing the incomparable Erin Andrews to the world of entertainment after she debuted on Dancing with the Stars.

Reportedly wavering to the "Dark Side," Andrews was leaning toward entertainment when her contract ran out with ESPN.

But ESPN, knowing a good thing when it sees it, struck a deal with Andrews, allowing her to cover entertainment while reporting about sports.

The first example of the deal comes in the form of the 83rd annual Academy Awards, which Andrews will cover with ESPN's sister station, ABC.

Andrews will be working with Robin Roberts on the set of Good Morning America on Sunday, leaving her loyal sports fans to exclaim when watching a game, "Where's Erin Andrews?!"

But don't worry sports fans, she apparently works sports still, too.

But one has to wonder how long this will last.

With Andrews' looks she's perfectly suited immersed in glitz and glamor, and the spotlight Dancing with the Stars cast down upon her had her wavering in an instant.

Is this the beginning of the end for us sports fans?

Not only is Andrews gorgeous, but she's also a pretty good reporter, too.

After breaking a chocolate Oscar leading up to the Academy Awards, Andrews said, "What am I doing here. I'm out of my element. I'm breaking Oscar."

That's right Erin, you are out of your element, you belong, right here, in the sports world.

The Fighter: The Five Greatest Sports Films of All Time

10 of 12

The Fighter, led by Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, has created a fervor across Sports Nation, and across the nation in general.

Recapturing the story of Wahlberg's childhood hero and Boston boxing legend "Irish" Micky Ward, the film has regularly been placed among sports' all-time greatest movies.

Here are my five greatest sports movies of all time, complete with The Fighter:

5. The Fighter: Not only does The Fighter capture Micky Ward's brilliant story in truly heroic fashion, it may be Christian Bale's best performance ever, a performance that has finally established him as one of the greatest actors ever. If Bale doesn't win Best Supporting Actor, I may just throw my toy boxing gloves at the screen. Beyond Bale, Mark Wahlberg trained for years for this film, and his passion for his self-proclaimed hero as a former Boston kid is evident from the opening moments of the movie.

4. Bull Durham: This movie is not only lauded among film aficionados, it's probably on every baseball player's top 5 list. A film that embodies the minor leagues, albeit in sometimes exaggerated proportions, it's witty, knowledgeable of the game, and gets the little things right, from superstitions to picking up signs. A true gem.

3. Field of Dreams: Some people may disagree with putting Field of Dreams ahead of Bull Durham, but I'm a writer, and this movie, based on W.P. Kinsella's novel, is one of the best written scripts ever to grace a sports movie. Combined with James Earl Jones' outstanding voice, the passion so clearly expressed for the game of baseball, and bringing the "dream" back into baseball, this is one of the greatest movies of all time.

2. Raging Bull: Robert DeNiro as a bloodied boxer, directed by Martin Scorcese? Need I say any more? This movie is not only a twisted, dark and bruising statement on the sport of boxing, it's also one of the most powerful films ever to grace the world of movies, period.

1. Hoosiers: This movie has everything: an underdog winning it all, a fearsome coach in Gene Hackman, a broken father-son relationship mended through basketball, contention, fear, celebration, and retribution. There's basically not an overwhelming emotion you experience while watching this film. I've watched it probably more than any other sports film out there, and I still haven't gotten tired of it.

David Beckham: Beckham Returns to LA Galaxy as Jesus

11 of 12

David Beckham is returning to soccer to play again for the LA Galaxy in America.

And he has a new look: a Jesus tattoo.

Risking claims of heresy, Beckham returns to the U.S. with a new tattoo on his chest featuring three baby cherubs carrying Jesus.

Beckham said the cherubs represent his three sons-Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz- and "at some point, my boys are going to have to look after me."

I'm guessing Jesus is Beckham himself in the flesh and blood.

Hopefully "Jesus" can still play soccer after all these years on this earth.

While Beckham's return is certainly a headline, despite his decline on the field, his tattoo has been exploding across the Internet, with cries of "amazing," "awesome," and "nice" filling message boards.

But I'm more focused on if Beckham can resemble Jesus on the soccer field.

He certainly isn't the same player he once was, and it's not like he's getting any younger.

But Beckham has that gene most great athletes do, so committed to their sport they forget they're supposed to be retired.

While Beckham won't be the same star player he's been throughout his career, I still believe he can be a solid contributing member of the Galaxy.

He knows the game better than anyone, and his dedication, on the field and in body art, can never be questioned.

Hopefully he can return to respectable form upon his return; if not, those cherubs may need to lift him to another "galaxy," that place where mortals go called retirement.

NFL Combine: Mark Herzlich Makes a Comeback for the Ages

Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a form of cancer that can attack bones, following the 2008 season.

Now he's making a comeback.

Two years since his diagnosis, Herzlich has worked his way back up to where he left off, noting he now benches the same amount of reps on the 225-pound bench press as he did before.

Herzlich, who missed the entire 2009 season, came back this year and ended the season with 65 tackles and four interceptions as a senior.

Experts are largely projecting him as a late fifth-round pick, but, then again, no one projected Herzlich to make it back to playing football.

Via ESPN:

"I've talked to a lot of people going through cancer right now, or are battling through something, and the biggest problem they have is not having that light at the end of the tunnel. My goal happened to be running out of the tunnel with my team. It got me through a lot of things."

Now, if Herzlich can impress during the combine, which he fully intends to starting Monday, he could be headed to his goal of making it to the NFL.

One things for sure: Herzlich's heart, determination and work ethic won't be questioned at the combine.
