Is there anyone more annoying than Hank Steinbrenner? I must admit I was near in tears watching the farewell to Yankee stadium on Sunday night, and couldn't get enough of the 24.7 coverage they showed on the historic pinstripes. But now that it is all said and done, Tampa and Boston have clinched playoff spots, while the almighty Yankees have been bounced from the American League playoff picture.
I am sure many of you have sports addicts like myself watched SportCenter 2 or 3 times this morning and saw the boss's jackass son running his mouth about how unfair the divisons are set up. He went on to rant and rave about how if the Dodgers played in the AL East they wouldn't have a shot at the playoffs because of how talented the AL East is. Now let me back this up for a minute, outside of the Red Sox and the Yankees every year its pretty much a two team race. Tampa is on the rise, but Baltimore and Toronto are not good baseball teams and haven't been competitive in quite some time.
Sure, the Dodgers probably wouldn't make the playoffs if they were in the AL East, good call Hank, but there not, they play in the west, and since the acquisition of Manny Ramirez the Dodgers have been the best team in the bigs besides the Astros. To me it just sounds like bitterness that the Yankees are missing the postseason for the first time in 13 years.
Steinbrenneris famous for running his mouth....Take March 8th for example when he said this "Red Sox Nation?" What a bunch of [expletive] that is," he said in an interview with The New York Times' Play magazine. "That was a creation of the Red Sox and ESPN, which is filled with Red Sox fans."Go anywhere in America and you won't see Red Sox hats and jackets, you'll see Yankee hats and jackets. This is a Yankee country. We're going to put the Yankees back on top and restore the universe to order."
Well Hank here's a newsflash for you, The Red Sox are a better run organization with better players and will be better for many years to come. You will not win rings by paying big contracts for Bobby Abreu, Johnny Damon and Carl Pavano. The Yankees have absolutely nothing going for them in the Minors, and pretty much are pointing to Melky Cabrera and Joba Chamberlin to be the future for this organization. Statistically the Yankees all hit the ball pretty well this year. But their not in the playoffs and that is what matters. I still am not sold on the Devil Rays as a powerhouse for the future, but I am also not sold on the Yankees winning another championship in the next 5 years.
Theres better teams with better talent all across the board, and Cashman and co. better come up with more of a gameplan then to keep the same washed up players on the Yankee roster. It was cool 5 years ago to collect Poke'mon Cards, and to buy championships, but that isn't how you do it anymore. Most teams with success have a core group of young talents, a few grizzled veterans that know how to win, and a couple big time players. The Yankees do not have any of that.
So Please Hank, Shut your mouth and rebuild your team, because the Yankees are obviously not the team to beat in the American League
