If the Pittsburgh Penguins want to make the playoffs and go deep once they're there, they need goaltending.

Despite the fact Ty Conklin was the NHL’s third star this week, having posted a 7–0 record since being called up from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, he will not netmind Pittsburgh to a Stanley Cup this season.

Even if Marc-Andre Fleury comes back into the lineup, I don’t think he has the experience to go far in the playoffs.

Fleury did not play terribly in last years playoff run, but the rebounds coming off those yellow pads, along with his general inexperience, will be the demise of the Penguins this season.

The Penguins will be in trouble if they don’t address their goaltending situation now. Would Curtis Joseph be the answer to the Penguins goaltending dilemma? I think not!

The Pens missed out on Cujo two seasons ago, when the Coyotes signed him. Joseph would have been a great mentor for the young Fleury, but now this old dog is out of new tricks.

I can’t see Joseph fairing much better then Conklin would.

Understandably, Joseph has the veteran experience that might help the Pens—but do they really need another cheerleader on the bench?

Cheerleaders don’t win you Cups in the NHL—great goaltending does.

With that in mind, who is felt to fill the void? Remember when the Oilers acquired Dwayne Roloson and they went on a roll to the Finals? With one year left on Roloson’s contract and with the state of the Edmonton team this season, Roloson would a very good fit.

I’m not saying Roloson will be the savior of the Penguins season—remember, Dwayne had a pretty good D man in Chris Pronger that played almost as many minutes as Roloson himself.

With that being said, if Roloson can go on that type of hot streak behind the powerful offence of the Penguins, they can really do some damage this postseason.

  1. Wow, this Othmer guy really knows about the concerns of the Pitty Goaltending situation! Nittymakki is a back up goaltender in Philly and is arguably better than the Pitty starter Marc - Andres. There is really no comparison to Martin Biron, but if there was, it would be Ryan Miller and I think we all know that he isn't going anywhere! The best goaltender in the league is Marty Turco, he just doesn't have the defensive or offensive line in front of him! So who does that leave...Jocylen Thibault... Ray Emery... or Ronny Fucking Hextal out of retirement??? So the answer is, untill the Pens can obtain a real goaltender, there days are numbered in the Eastern Conference, even with the high paid salaries of Sid the kid and Jo - Staal may be amongst the highest, are there attributes really worth it?

    1. Turco would be lucky to sneak into the top 5 goalies in the league! how can you put him above Luongo, Brodeur, Lundqvist and Nabokov?

  2. Miller and Turco would be good in a perfect world Rollmaster. I can just imagine the possibiltes. Looks like Conklin is talking the #1 spot. Did you see that save the other night?!? I think he is 8-0 now. WOW GO TY!!

  3. Othmer , have you ever seen a hockey game outside of the north bay centenials in 2002 or the Cobalt Kings of 1997? If Pittsburg had to chose one goaltender in the league to go with the spark, flare as well as young talent on the team...it would honestly haveto be Kerry Price! He has an outstanding gga as well as potential to grow inta a superstar goalie such as: Martin Biron, Ryan Miller or Marty Turco! Give this kidd a chance and you will be surprised with your own very eyes! Honestly, if you are despereate, bring Peter Ing out of retirement, anyone can do a better job than Marcy Marc!

  4. I see your Point Roll. Turco would be amazing for the Pens. If you wanna talk about old hardcore North Bay Centenials crap Alex Auld isen't the answer either for the Pens. What does he have this year 1 win for Boston this year? (and that without looking at the stats page.) Get you stats straight Master its Carey, not Kerry.

  5. I would trade Price for Fleury straight up today!

  6. Fleury for Nittymakki - str8 up ? yes or no???

  7. You would have to be stupid to trade away a French Canadian goalie!!!

  8. althought I would take a good Canadian kid like The Price is Right!!!

  9. oh and did I studder!!! Dwayne Roloson, buddy!!

  10. dwwdwdwdwdwdwdayne, I heard you! As washed up as a jellyfish on the coast on Miami Beach! Why don't you sign Brian Trottier while your at it? Maybe my next door neighbor Jeff Hacket? Oh Oh I know,,, how about Patrick Roy you French Canadian loving freak! Why don't you bring Lindros out of retirement so he can skate the wrong way down the ice thinking he's on a break away then pour beer on some Guelph girls head? Whatever makes you feel like a man Othmer!! The best players you ever had came from Philly - Reechi and Leclair babey! That's where it's at! Gary "who gives a fuck" Roberts ain't gonna do sheeeatttt 4 u!

  11. Hey Othmer, I think Dwayne Roloson would be a fine fit for the missing link! What is this Rollmaster guy on anyway???

  12. Roll had some good points... Turko would be solid in Pitts for a playoff run. Conklin is 10-0-1 pretty nice..

  13. Cujo gone to Calgary!
