Arsenal: Champions at the End of the Season?

Bahlul ZadeJan 9, 2008

At the beginning of the season, Arsenal were in crisis. Two of their star men had gone. Thierry Henry had left to join Barcelona and Ljunberg had left for West Ham. The media and pundits were writing us off, saying that we had no chance in hell of winning the title, and were not even going to finish in the top four.

How wrong they were!

It's January 9th. And Arsenal sits on top of the league two points ahead of Man United. They are in the league cup semi final and in every other Cup while fielding the youngest side in the Premiership. They have been able to go to places like ewood park and return with victories without fielding nearly their strongest side. This is definetly a side on the up.

While United and Chelsea were breaking their banks for superstars, Arsenal were developing them. Arsene Wenger has developed the most effective scouting system in the world. While Ferguson was signing Kleberson and Djemba Djemba for fifteen million pounds, both of which didn't have any effect on the Premiership, Arsene Wenger had signed a young spaniard from Barcelona for less than 500,000 pounds—his name was Cesc Fabregas.

Fabregas is arguably the best midfielder in the Premiership, if not the world. He has become Arsenal's best player and an integral part of the spanish national team. Real Madrid and Barcelona have come in for Fabregas and he and Arsenal have rejected them. He has even signed a new twelve year contract and is surely now, at a young age of 20, going to be one of the major components that decide Arsenal's future.

But the Gunners' future is not solely up to him. There are many more.

As I mentioned earlier, Arsenal have the greatest scouting system to date. And many youngsters look set to grace the Premiership in the near future. Theo Walcott, Abou Diaby, Denilson, Armand Traore, Nicklas Bendtner, and Carlos Vela just to name a few.

And Arsenal's "old guard" isnt anywhere near over yet. Besides Gallas and Almunia, the usual first eleven are under the age of 26—which gives the young players more than enought time to get used to the league before the"old guard" retire.

So far the stars of the season have been:Fabregas, Hleb, Rosicky, Adebayor, Flamini, Van Persie, Clichy, Bendtner, Eboue, Gallas, Sagna, Toure, Walcott, and of course, Almunia.

But it is the manager Arsene Wenger who created this magnificent team. He gets most of the credit!

Will Arsenal win the league?

No. Arsenal will win everything. Come on you gooners!
