Fedor Vs. Silva Results: Did Andrei Arlovski And Fedor Emelianenko Just Retire?

According to a Strikeforce and Showtime poll, 43% picked Fedor Emelianenko to win the entire tournament, and 11% picked Andrei Arlovski.

After only two quarterfinal matches in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament, half of the voting audience was proven wrong about their #1 choices.

In an exciting night of fights, we saw two fan-favorite fighters stopped, and perhaps perform for the last time.

Arlovski was on a three fight losing skid heading into his match with Kharitonov, and many considered his placement in the tournament as a chance to reclaim his former glory.

After suffering his third first-round knockout loss in a now four-fight losing skid, there does not seem to be much hope left for redemption in Andrei Arlovski.

At only 32 years-old, in might be a little premature to call for the former-world champion's retirement, but there is not much he has to offer the MMA world in the foreseeable future.

The big news, of course, is the defeat of Fedor Emelianenko at the hands of Antonio Silva.

Coming off of a submission loss to Fabricio Werdum, Fedor Emelianko was halted by Antonio Silva by way of a doctor's stoppage in-between the second and third rounds.

After watching the man who dominated the sport for a decade be declared unfit to enter the third round, I felt an unmistakable feeling that we had just officially watched the end of the Fedor Emelianenko era in mixed martial arts.

Emelianenko nearly confirmed the sentiment himself when he admitted that maybe it is God's will that it is his time to retire.

If this is the last time we see "The Russian Emperor" compete, may we never forget the dominant legacy he endeared to MMA.  Thank you, youtube.   

Fedor proved that he is still certainly capable of competing against the best of the best, but his distinct edge over the rest of the fighting community has finally evaporated.
