Former WBC world light heavyweight champion, “Granite Chin” Tomasz Adamek, will fight “The Clones Colossus” Kevin McBride at a date and location yet to be determined.
In all likelihood, the bout will occur in Adamek’s home country of Poland on April 16.
Provided that Adamek (43-1, 28 KOs) manages to emerge victorious over McBride (35-8-1, 29 KOs), he is tentatively slated to battle one of the Klitschko brother’s in September.
WBC world heavyweight king Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KOs) will make a mandatory title defense against Odlanier Solis March 19, and his little brother, IBF, IBO and WBO champion Wladimir (55-3, 49 KOs), is slated to scrap England’s Dereck Chisora April 30.
If, as expected, both Klitschko’s trump their opponents in Germany this spring, “Granite Chin” will fight one of the two Ukrainian’s at a new soccer stadium being built in either Warsaw or Wroclaw, Poland.
Adamek, 34, is also a past IBF, IBO and The Ring Magazine cruiserweight titlist, and suffered his only defeat as a professional against “Bad” Chad Dawson (29-1-0-1, 17 KOs) by unanimous decision in February 2007.
Since that loss, Adamek has won 12 consecutive prizefights.
McBride, a native of Ireland who currently resides in Dorchester and trains in Brockton, gained worldwide fame when he earned a sixth round TKO triumph over “Iron” Mike Tyson in June 2005.
Could Adamek defeat the Klitschko's?
Ultimately, McBride’s demolition of Tyson (50-6-0-2, 44 KOs) ended the ring legend’s career.
After struggling with alcohol and enduring four consecutive losses, McBride, 37, beat Franklin Egobi by split decision this past October.
McBride is six-foot-six and tips the scales at approximately 270 pounds.
The Irishman is an adequate pugilist who possesses great strength.
Conversely, Adamek’s an aggressive boxer who has proven he can withstand powerful blows.
Prior to McBride’s upset victory over Tyson, his advisor, Rich Cappiello from Brockton, incensed “The Baddest Man on the Planet” with his chatter and taunts.
Tyson responded to Cappiello by yelling “You’re gonna get Kevin killed. Go sit down. I’m gonna gut him like a fish. He’s a tomato can.”
McBride is absolutely not a “tomato can,” and Adamek will never “get Kevin killed.”
Nevertheless, Tomasz Adamek will decisively outclass McBride and easily win by TKO sometime prior to the sixth round in two-and-a-half months.
