WWE Now: Monday Night RAW Thoughts (1/31/11)

0 of 8

Welcome to the first edition of WWE Now: Monday Night RAW thoughts. In this weekly slideshow, I will provide my input in the goings-on of RAW.

On the January 31 edition, Alberto Del Rio made his choice for a Wrestlemania opponent, we found out who the Miz would face at Elimination Chamber, and a mysterious vignette was aired, leaving us all scratching our heads.

    It's time for WWE Now.

Opening Promo

1 of 8

Alberto Del Rio comes out to above average heat with a Mariachi band playing his theme song. After a few "I told you so"s, and "It was my destiny", The Miz comes out with Alex Riley to huge heat. The Miz says he overheard Edge saying that he didn't respect Del Rio. Edge apparently made fun of his accent.

Edge's music plays, and he comes out to the biggest pop so far. It's Edge, Del Rio, Miz, Riley, and the Mariachi band all in the ring. Edge says that all of those things are true. But he wouldn't say it behind Del Rio's back; he'd say it to his face. It's really heated now and Del Rio looks like he's about ready to attack Miz, but then says he's chosen Edge. Edge hits him with the mic, and the band, Miz, and Riley all depart the ring. Miz distracts Edge, and Del Rio smacks Edge over the arm with one of the band's guitars! He locks in the cross-arm breaker. Edge is tapping and refs come out to attend to him. Del Rio's smiling.

This was a great promo by three of the best mic workers in the WWE. Great start to the show.

Husky Harris and Michael McGillicutty Vs. Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov

2 of 8

Did you realize that this is actually the Welsh flag?

This match, I actually knew what was happening. It was a match for the WWE Tag Team Championships.

Santino gets dominated for most of the match, until he hits a hot tag to Kozlov, who starts dominating. Then he tags back to Santino, who hits the Cobra on Husky Harris. Jeez, would it kill WWE to give Kozlov a pin every now and then?

After the match, Randy Orton comes out and RKO's both McGillicutty and Harris. He's setting up for the Orton punt on Harris. The rest of Nexus comes out. CM Punk's at the entrance ramp calmly telling Orton to calm down. It'll be stupid.

Orton punts Harris. He gets chased out of the ring area but escapes.

    *cough* *just like Cena* *cough*

Disappointing match, and I'm getting de ja vu, except Wade Barrett and John Cena are replaced by CM Punk and Randy Orton.

Daniel Bryan Vs. Tyson Kidd

3 of 8

Kidd's in the ring after commercial break. Daniel Bryan comes out with Gail Kim. They both get in a little offense, but Bryan wins with the Lebell Lock.

Oh, and the Bella Twins were on commentary.

I didn't even know this was a title match until I looked up the results. Good job, WWE.

Review: ** (Two out of five)

This really could've been great, but it's RAW, so singles matches aren't allowed to go for longer than 10 minutes.

The Diva drama is really stupid. I can't fathom the WWE making two seperate Diva storylines at once; it's just too much to handle.

Mysterious Vignette

4 of 8

We see a vignette with a cloaked figure walking into an old shack. At the end, 2.21.11 is shown, signaling the date of Elimination Chamber, where we will see this event happen.

Popular belief is that it is Sting that is coming, but I believe we'll see the return of the Undertaker, who will eliminate Wade Barrett.

    But that's just my opinion.

Edge Vs. The Miz

5 of 8

The crowd was really into this one.

However, it was ruined when John Cena was shown with a microphone at the top of the arena. He's trying to distract the Miz. It works. Edge hits the Spear for the victory.

Review: *** (Three out of five)

The match itself was okay. However, the Miz reminds me of Sheamus and Jack Swagger....

LayCool Vs. Eve and Natalya

6 of 8

Surprisingly good. LayCool goes for some comedy when Layla tries to hide and runs back to Michelle after being tagged.

LayCool wins when Layla does one of the most awesome moves I've seen from a Diva ever: a top rope stunner. She pins Eve.

Review: ** (Two out of five)

The comedy kind of ruined the good match.

RAW Rumble: Cena, Punk, Orton, Morrison, Sheamus, R-Truth, Jerry Lawler

7 of 8

Punk is the first eliminated, by Orton. Immediately after, R-Truth eliminates Orton, who took his eyes off the action.

Truth seemed heelish to me, and was the next one eliminated. After a series of cool spots, John Morrison was eliminated, followed by Cena.

Sheamus missed a Brogue Kick on King and was sent flying. Jerry Lawler is the No. 1 contender for the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber. The others will participate in a match to see who will face the WWE Champion at Wrestlemania.

Review: **** (Four out of five)

This was one of the best RAW matches I have seen in a long while. This would've gotten five stars had the winner not been Jerry Lawler.

Overall RAW Review

8 of 8

    *** (Three out of five)

This was a momentous night in the WWE. Alberto Del Rio will face Edge at Wrestlemania for the World Heavyweight Championship, Jerry Lawler will face The Miz at Elimination Chamber, and either Sting or the Undertaker is coming on 2/21/11.

Thanks for reading the first edition of WWE Now: Monday Night RAW Thoughts.
