Michigan Adds Another Commitment to Their 2009 Class
After a disappointing loss to Notre Dame, Wolverines fans got an off week to reflect on what went wrong—but they also received some good news too. The Wolverines picked up a verbal commitment from four-star Scottsdale, Arizona defensive end Craig Roh.
The 6'5", 230-pound end made his decision to play for the Maize & Blue on national television.
"I'm going to be committing to the University of Michigan—Go Blue!" Roh said on ESPNU at 6:30 pm Thursday night. "I just knew in my heart that that was the place where I could really maximize my potential, physically, mentally and really in all aspects."
Michigan surpassed Nebraska, USC, UCLA, and Arizona State to get Roh to come play for the Maize & Blue. Roh is the second end to commit to the Wolverines this week following New Jersey's Anthony LaLota, who committed to Michigan last Friday.
Before making the decision, Roh made several unofficial visits to schools that had offered him scholarships and one official visit to Ann Arbor for their opener against Utah, when he was blown away the Big House.
Roh was concerned about playing so far away from home, but Roh's father grew up in Michigan and still has family that they visit during the summer. So that was one factor that helped get rid of those concerns.
The Wolverines now addressed their greatest need of 2009. They had yet to receive a commitment from a defensive end since April of 2006. Roh, a weakside defensive end, along with LaLota, a strongside defensive end, will get rid of the concern of depth at that position.
Roh is ranked as the No. 188 player by Rivals.com and No. 69 by Scout.com. In Roh's junior year he amassed a total of 99 total tackles, including an incredible 45 for loss and 16 sacks.
With Tim Jamison gone at the end of this season, there is the possibility that Roh could come in and play right away.
