Wrestlemania XXVII: How the Card Is Shaping Up After the Royal Rumble
Much has occured at this months Royal Rumble event. Reports were out a month ago that much of what happend at the Royal Rumble will culiminate into matches at Wrestlemania XXVII. So, that kinds gives a very clear idea of what is set to happend at Wrestlemania XXVII.
Along with current reports stating what creative has in store for Wrestlemania match ups, I decided to put along a little slide-show displaying highly likely match ups for this years greatest stage of em' all. If I do say so my self, the card looks extremely realistic with a bit of exception given to the World Heavyweight Championship match which I will get to later.
Of course much can change, and the complexion of the Wrestlemania card can completely change by Elimination Chamber because, well, it's the WWE. Plans change. But I am merely giving my predictions of what looks to be happening at Wrestlemania based on what events took place at the Rumble.
Note that this isn't an entire Wrestlemania 27 card that I am predicting. I have skipped out predicting most of the mid card matches mainly because there isn't enough information as of now to actually predict most of those bouts. This is merely some matches that I predict will happen at this years grandest stage of em' all
Anyways, without further adieu, lets get started on this.
Rey Mysterio Vs. Cody Rhodes
Rey Mysterio injured Cody Rhodes nose on an episode of SmackDown! 2 weeks before the Rumble, and it actually resulted in Rhodes not making an appearence at Wrestlemania. So, you can kind of get an idea that there's going to be some heat and sparks lighting up between Rhodes and Mysterio eventually leading up to a Wrestlemania match. Reports are actually surfacing that Mysterio hand picked Rhodes to be his opponent at Wrestlemania.
The fact that WWE is having Rhodes take his injury so seriously has to speak to some volume. There's going to be a feud between Mysterio and Rhodes soon, and personally, if there's no championship involved, I'm not going to be interested in the feud at all.
The Corre Vs. Nexus
This match was teased throughout the entire Rumble match. The whole pre-show before the Rumble match started was the Corre and Nexus going at it. So, I think there's a high chance this match is going to happen. I guess that this is the interpromotional match between RAW and SmackDown! that WWE will throw our way for Wrestlemania that happens every year.
Tag matches have never been appealing to me unless they have a stipulation. So, if this match were let's say, a Tornado Tag Elimination match, I would be extremely interested. Especially because of the fact that this match might have decent build-up going towards it.
Triple H Vs. Sheamus
I have a strong feeling Triple H will return at the next months Elimination Chamber PPV because it gives him an oppurtunity to thrash a vulnerable Sheamus after the Elimination Chamber. Whenver Triple H does return, it has to be between now and Elimination Chamber because Triple H is a draw that Mcmahon wouldn't want to lose for Wrestlemania.
I think it's kind of obvious that this match is to happen. When Triple H comes back, he has to feud with Sheamus eventually leading up to possibly a Extreme Rules match. Might as well have that match at Wrestlemania because believe it or not, it will be a draw given the right post-buildup.
CM Punk Vs. Randy Orton
The Royal Rumble PPV was entirely based up on not only getting the Wrestlemania Number One contender for a title, but also setting up further feuds. This match is most likely to happen after CM Punk cost Randy Orton his much prized WWE Title.
I can definately see this match happening especially after CM Punk straight up GTS'ed Randy Orton to cost him the title. What I'm really excited about is the build-up seeing as this feud has the potential to be great. I can see Orton pinning Punk at Elimination Chamber or vice-versa.
Wade Barrett Vs. The Undertaker
Seeing as how then Nexus leader Wade Barrett had his cronies bury the Undertaker, it seems logical on Undertaker's part to come after Barrett. His recent move to SmackDown! confirmed my suspicion of Barrett vs. Taker at Wrestlemnia.
Am I the only person who wants this match to happen? Given the build-up, I personally think this match and feud has the potential to be great. I'm not saying that Barrett would have to break the streak, because just having a great match with Undertaker at Wrestlemania can do wonders for some ones career. Look at Randy Orton at Wrestlemania 21.
Anyways, I'm really looking forward to a match between these two greats. Barrett needs a push and some momentum for a title shot, and this bout with the Undertaker can certainly give that to him.
WWE Championship: The Miz (C) Vs. John Cena
The WWE have been teasing us this match for nearly a month. For the past few weeks, these guys have been talking to each other on screen.
Not to mention the little stunt Miz pulled on Cena at the Royal Rumble costing him a Rumble victory. Well, surely WWE has something planned out between these two men soon. And with Wrestlemania on the horizon, one can't help but wonder that all this Miz/Cena promo's and segments are there for a potential Wrestlemania Title Match.
I can see John Cena getting the victory at Elimination Chamber next month for the WWE Title and then having Miz cash in his rematch clause at Wrestlemania. I have to agree with what Cena once said. This match doesn't really scream Wrestlemania. I admit, I'm not really thrilled on this match, but the feud itself has the potential to be great. Hey, it's better then another Orton vs. Cena bout don't you think?
World Heavyweight Championship: Edge (C) Vs. Christian Vs. Alberto Del Rio
I might get some heat here because I threw in Christian in the mix between Alberto Del Rio and Edge. Call me a fan boy and day-dreamer all you want, but I believe there is a high chance this match will take place.
Alberto Del Rio is the Rumble winner. He automatically gets to choose his opponent for Wrestlemania and I think it will be Edge (assuming Edge is the World Heavyweight Champion at that time).
Christian was side-lined for nearly 6 months because of Alberto Del Rio. And hey, he himself said that when he returns, Alberto Del Rio better get ready during the Slammy's. And I do believe that Christian will return before Wrestlemania. The Edge/Christian Slammy Award segment was fishy in my eyes.
And Edge even used the Killswitch to finish off Ziggler at the Royal Rumble. Just in case you didn't know, there is a reason why booking told Edge to do that. And hopefully, that's because they were foreshadowing something between Edge and Christian in the near future.
I think that Edge will go through the Elimination Chamber with his title in tact, while Christian and Alberto further their feud setting up Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian vs. Edge.
There you have it folks. That's already 7 of the approximate 10 or 11 matches that I believe will take place at this years Wrestlemania. And by the looks of the Rumble and other hints that WWE has given us, I think it's a sure fire those matches will happen. But of course, the WWE can always change their plans.
But in all, I think that this card in addition to possible Tyyson Kidd/ Daniel Bryan, and Natalya/Beth bouts would make an awesome Wrestlemania 27. This years Wrestlemania is looking to be much more feud built, more so then previous years which is a really great thing. Maybe it's just me, but all the possible matches I've listed before this all in some extent scream Wrestlemania.
I really don't know why everybody is saying that Wrestlemania is going to suck, because looking at the highly possible card I've listed, I think this Wrestlemania will be damn good.
Looking at the possible bouts I've listed, I really think that this Wrestlemania will be the greatest we've had in years. Wouldn't you agree?
Anyways, until further notice, this is Ray Samuels signing off here at BleacherReport.
