The Danish minnows Aalborg BK last night claimed a historic point after they managed to hold onto a 0-0 draw at Celtic.

This was the first ever away point to be achieved by a Danish side in the Champions League.

Brondby and FC Copenhagen have both tried their luck in recent years, and both teams came up short away from home.

Brondby made it to the Champions League group stages in 1999. Unfortunately, however, they were trapped in the "Group of Death" and had to overcome Manchester United, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich.

Their campaign started off with a surprising win over German giants Bayern Munich, as Brondby ran out 2-1 winners.

At the beginning of match day two, they were sitting pretty at the top of the group after United and Barcelona drew 3-3 in their opening match.

They were brought back down to earth however, after Barcelona comfortably disposed of them in the second round of matches.

In game three and four, Brondby were made to suffer again as Manchester United tore them apart with ease.

The two matches ended 5-0 and 6-1 respectively, to United.

With Brondby sitting firmly at the bottom of the group, they were humiliated again, this time by Bayern Munich.

They conceded a total of 18 goals in the six matches.

FC Copenhagen's attempt was more recent. In fact, it was as recent as 2006.

After disposing of Dutch giants, Ajax Amsterdam they qualified for Champions League for the first time in their history.

Like Brondby, they were also paired with Manchester United. This time however, the other two teams in the group were Benfica and Glasgow Celtic.

Unlike Brondby however, Copenhagen performed really well in front of their home crowd. After holding Benfica to a 0-0 draw, they beat United and Celtic, 1-0 and 3-1 respectively.

Their undoing was, unfortunately, their away form as they lost all three away games and were eliminated.

In 2008, Danish champions Aalborg BK qualified for the Champions League Group stages.

They were paired with, believe it or not, Manchester United, Celtic, and Villarreal.

Aalborg are the third Danish team to qualify for the Champions League and for the third time, Manchester United stand in the way of a Danish team.

After much hype Aalborg finally got their eagerly waited European debut underway. Celtic were the opponents on a cold night in Glasgow.

Celtic did most of the attacking but they could not break down a resillient Aalborg defence, and they were almost caught out on the break on a number of occasions.

In the midst of all the excitement and drama came a moment of pure madness.

Aalborg defender Michael Beauchamp was sent off with 10 minutes to go for a 'last-man' foul on Georgios Samaras, when it appeared that Michael Jakobsen was the culprit.

It was a case of mistaken identity and a real howler from the officials.

The match ended 0-0 and at last, a Danish side had bagged a point away from home.
