Would You Do Anything Just to Watch a College Football Game?

LilySep 11, 2008

With this supposed "game of the century" coming up betweenĀ the USC Trojans and the Ohio State Buckeyes,Ā many across the country are expecting a thrilling game with possible BCS national championship ramifications.

But along with that 8:00 p.m. Saturday night kickoff are...many high school homecoming dances! I've heard people talking at school about skipping out on homecoming festivities in order to spoil themselves for three hours watching the men of Troy and the nuts square off. Skipping out on homecoming to some spirited teens is like missing their wedding—they think it's a taboo thing to do.

But TRUST ME. Fans will do crazier things just to watch their favorite team play. If any of you guys watched ESPN's Dr. Lou show, one fan called in asking whether or not he should see the BCS title game if his beloved Georgia Bulldogs were to make it; however, the game is supposedly the same day as the scheduled birth of his child.

Hmm. Let me think. Wife giving birth or watching the Dawgs play? I don't seem to know.

Come on, would you really miss the birth of your own child just to watch a football game? Now you probably would, but later, when your kid finds out that football was more important than cutting his/her umbilical cord, you've got some 'spainling to do!

Anyway, the craziness of college football fans does not stop there. I was interning at our local St. Vincent's Hospital during the night of the Ohio State-Texas game two years ago and I remember hearing a loud THUD! down the hall.

One of our patients had literally unplugged himself from his oxygen tank and tried to get access to another TV because his Longhorns were playing—apparently, the TV in his room was getting bad reception and he collapsed during his attempt. (He's fine now, by the way.)

As you can see, football fans will do the weirdest things because their team means that much to them.

So let me ask you, what's the best thing that you've done in order to watch a game?
