This seems to be a popular topic around Bleacher Report right now, so I'm going to hop on the WrestleMania XXVII bandwagon. This is purely an opinion piece, with a small amount of logic thrown in. This is my dream card with the talent available as of now.
Note: The order of the slides indicates the order of the matches on the night.
A good opener to get the crowd into the night. At Mania, I can see Santino & Kozlov (w/ Tamina) defending against the winner of NXT 4 and his pro, whom I'm predicting to be Ted DiBiase and Brodus Clay (w/ Maryse). As far as the match goes, I can see a fairly quick match with 10 minutes maximum going for it.
Winners via pinfall (Following Maryse's interference) and new Tag Team Champions: DiBiase and Clay.
I feel that WWE will bring the Money in the Bank back to WrestleMania again. We all know the story at this point: First man to climb the ladder and retrieve the briefcase wins the match and a shot at a World Championship anytime over the next 12 months. I feel the participants will be as following
Justin Gabriel: With the rest of Nexus in action throughout the evening, Gabriel was the only member to snatch a MitB spot. Can the South African Sensation capture the briefcase?
John Morrison: The Los Angeles A-Lister has come close to the Main Event many times. Is 2011 the year of JoMo?
Dolph Ziggler: The now former Intercontinental Champion is on a major roll as of Friday. Will the self-professed Perfect One win the big ladder match?
David Hart Smith: The 2nd Generation star hasn't been up to much since his split from Tyson Kidd. I feel Smith will be the guy that gets close to the Main Event throughout his career, but never really fits there alá Chris Benoit.
Alex Riley: As much as it pains me, this seems like a logical move. Can Riley emulate his mentor and win Money in the Bank? Could he even cash in on the Miz?
Christian: Captain Charisma, the live wire, the pontiff of the peepulation (I love that one). Yet missing from Christian's list of names is World Champion. I don't think Christian will win the Royal Rumble, but can he add Mr. Money in the Bank to his nicknames?
“Dashing” Cody Rhodes: The other 2nd Generation star in this match, and participating in his 2nd Money in the Bank. Can the Dashing One pull through such a tough match? Or will his precious face cost him?
Kofi Kingston: The Ghanaian high flier came close to breaking through the glass ceiling in 2009. Can the current Intercontinental Champion once again come that close and complete the job?
Winner: Each of these Superstars are eminently qualified for the main event, maybe bar DH Smith and Riley, who would more than likely be the victims of eliminating spots. That narrows the field down to six. Logically, Rhodes needs a mid-card belt win before heading to the Main Event. Dolph and Kofi are feuding right now, so one could take these two out of the equation. That leaves 3: Gabriel, Morrison, and Christian. Out of the three Morrison seems the most likely to take the case and the win.
Winner: John Morrison
I can see this rivalry erupting in the Royal Rumble match and continuing through the SmackDown Elimination Chamber Match. I think that at Royal Rumble, Kane will eliminate Zeke cheaply or Zeke will catch Kane off guard. This will obviously piss off the monster on the losing end leading to a series of confrontations leading to a match at the Granddaddy of the all.
I feel this won't be a wrestling clinic, but a straight up brawl between two beasts.
Winner, via pinfall/DQ: Ezekiel Jackson
A rivalry that never really had a satisfactory conclusion. Again something I could see igniting at Royal Rumble, or maybe the post-rumble SmackDown.
As for the match itself, I'd expect it to follow the traditional, boring Mysterio match style, i.e. Rey gets beat up for most of the match and then channels Cena.
Winner, via pinfall: Rey Mysterio.
A rematch nearly a year in the making. Unless Triple H's injuries flare up between now and the biggest show of them all, this match is set in stone. Triple H will be seeking revenge for Sheamus "retiring" him at Extreme Rules 2010. Sheamus, for the second time in as many years, will seek to dethrone The Game at WrestleMania.
Like Kane vs Ezekiel, this will be a brawl, maybe even with a Street Fight stipulation attached. Either way, I see The Celtic Warrior once again having Trip's number, and finally accomplishing the goal he set out to do at WrestleMania 26.
Winner, via pinfall: Sheamus
I can see Daniel Bryan putting his belt up against Evan Bourne at WrestleMania in a "respect match", much like Benoit vs Guerrero. WWE could play up the friendship between the two in the run-up to Mania, and then say the night after Elimination Chamber, Bourne could challenge Bryan for the belt at Mania. If they wanted to, WWE could also use this as a platform to turn Bryan heel, but at this point that is very unlikely.
As I stated, this bout would be a "respect match", with both men trying to one up each other. I could see Bourne eventually taking one risk too much, and Bryan taking that opportunity to make Bourne tap.
Winner, via submission, and still United States Champion, Daniel Bryan.
I think by the time WrestleMania rolls around, Alberto will have established himself enough to take on Edge on the Grandest Stage. I don't think Del Rio will be the rumble winner, I feel he will qualify through a tournament or battle royal or however SmackDown's WrestleMania #1 Contender will be decided. This feud will bring out the best in both men, with Edge the WWE veteran leading Del Rio, a vet in his own right, through the match.
As for the match itself, I think it would present a few highlight reel moments, and could end up as Edge's best WrestleMania match, while it will seriously elevate Juan Bradshaw Layfield. I see Del Rio picking up a clean pinfall victory over the Rated R Superstar.
Winner, via pinfall and new World Heavyweight Champion: (In RR's voice) Alberto Del Rio.
Yet another match that seems set to go in Atlanta, I think Wade Barrett will be the biggest threat to the streak yet. Think about it; The man who orchestrated Nexus, the man who injured Cena, the man who helped bury Undertaker. Contrast that with the weakened Phenom of late, and you can see the reasoning.
However, something ignites in Taker at WrestleMania, and I think at the 19th time of asking, The Streak will remain, but only after a defiant and star-making performance by Barrett.
Winner, via pinfall: The Undertaker.
Yeah, whatever happens will probably involve those two, with McTaker winning.
The semi-main event of WrestleMania could end up outshining the Main Event. The Nexus storyline is rumored to end around WrestleMania, and I feel that the guys that got kicked out should play a final part in the story. Cena could round up Skip Sheffield, Michael Tarver, and Darren Young and point out that they were wronged. Cena could explain the RAW GM has given Cena a match at WrestleMania: Cena and 3 partners of his choosing vs David Otunga, Husky Harris, Michael McGillicutty, and Heath Slater in an eight man tag match.
With the Nexus set to disband, this would be their final match as a unit. The match would more than likely end in chaos, with Sheffield turning on Exodus, and Otunga betraying Nexus purely in self interest. Cena would then hit the Attitude Adjustment out of nowhere on Slater and force him to tap with the STF.
Winners, via submission: Cena, Young, Skip, and Tarver.
I think Orton will regain the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber. Miz will use his rematch clause to get into the match at WrestleMania, and CM Punk will get there by winning the Royal Rumble match.
This would be a heated match, with all three competitors looking to leave WrestleMania as the champion. I think the former-as-of-the-last-match Nexus would run in towards the end and eliminate the Miz from the equation. That would leave it between Punk and Orton. The two would fight it out, with Orton eventually getting a surprise RKO in for the 3.
Winner, via pinfall and still WWE Champion: Randy Orton.
Well that's that. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.
