WWE Royal Rumble: What's Up with the Return of Triple H?

Joe M.Correspondent IJanuary 3, 2011

Triple H has been out of action and off WWE TV for over eight months, with his last TV appearance being back in April of 2010.  WWE's roster took quite the hit in 2010, with Shawn Michaels, Batista and Chris Jericho leaving, and top superstars like The Undertaker being sidelined with various injuries for most of the year.

At a time when the WWE roster needs all the help it can get, everyone's question is, "Where is Triple H?"

Back in April, Triple H disappeared from WWE television, but he was really just taking some time off to rehab a strained neck, a nagging injury that needed to be tended too, although no surgery would be required.  At that point in time, a SummerSlam return seemed well within the realm of possible, as a matter of fact, it seemed likely.

Fast forward to July of 2010. Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Dirk Hayhurst revealed that Triple H has undergone surgery.  Dirk didn't mean to purposely create hype, but the Internet exploded and it didn't take very long for details to surface.  While out rehabbing his nagging neck, Hunter has undergone surgery to repair a torn tendon.

This would push back a return for "The Game" to a reported time range of October-December 2010. It should be noted, however, that on Oct. 30, 2010 Triple H wrestled a "warm-up" match at a WWE house show, clearly showing that a return would be coming.

Here we are in January 2011, and there is still no Triple H.  One would assume that a big star like Triple H would be returning at a pay-per-view, and the next one just so happens to be the Royal Rumble on Jan. 30, 2011.

The Royal Rumble is one of the best pay-per-views for surprise returns.  The 2010 and 2008 Rumbles are prime examples of that, with John Cena returning in 2008 and Edge returning in 2010 (both went on to win, too).

Can Triple H return on Raw before the Rumble?  Of course he can, but all the signs are pointing to a surprise return at the Royal Rumble as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match.

Plus, we are already past the original timetable for his return, so one should at least humor the possibility that WWE actually held him off, in order to set up a Rumble return.

The title of this article was a question: What's up with the return of Triple H?  That question can be answered pretty simply (at least in my opinion).  Look for Triple H to return at the Royal Rumble on Jan. 30, 2011, as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match.
