Urijah Faber's first fight in the UFC has been confirmed, and it's not against who you would expect.
The former long-time WEC Featherweight Champion will meet another former WEC champion in Eddie Wineland at UFC 128 in March. It is expected to be a part of the night's televised card on pay-per-view.
MMAFighting.com was the first to report the news.
Faber (24-4, 0-0 UFC) was last seen making his bantamweight debut at WEC 52 in November, defeating Takeya Mizugaki by submission in the first round.
Many thought that Faber could face now UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz in his first fight in the UFC, but he has drawn the former WEC Bantamweight Champion Wineland as his first opponent in his new home.
Wineland (18-6-1, 0-0 UFC) recently competed at December's WEC 53 event, where he defeated Ken Stone by vicious slam that left Stone down for several minutes afterwards before being taken to the hospital. Stone ended up okay after the visit to the hospital.
That win marked Wineland's fourth in a row, a streak that includes victories over George Roop, Manny Tapia and Will Campuzano.
A win for either man could earn them the first shot at Cruz and the UFC Bantamweight Title.
UFC 128 is scheduled for March 19, 2011 from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. A UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Rashad Evans will serve as the night's main event.
The current UFC 128 lineup now includes:
Mauricio Rua (c) vs. Rashad Evans (for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship)
Urijah Faber vs. Eddie Wineland
Brendan Schaub vs. Mirko Cro Cop
Ricardo Almeida vs. Mike Pyle
Kurt Pellegrino vs. Gleison Tibau
Edson Barboza vs. Anthony Njokuani
