Sports Year in Review: 2010
This year was full of surprises between cricket, which remained in controversy, to soccer, which crowned the new world champion.
In golf, Tiger Woods lost his No. 1 position to Lee Westwood. In F1, Sebaistian Vettel became the youngest F1 champion.
In field hockey the Australians finally defeated the Germans to become the world champion after losing in 2002 and 2006.
This year was a year of rememberence.
Spain Crowned World Champions
South Africa's Soccer City Stadium was jam-packed. Two of the best teams in the world were against each other. Netherlands, the team which was impressive throughout the tournament, was facing Spain, the world's No. 1 team and European Champion.
After the 116th minute, Barcelona midfielder Andre Iniesta scored the goal to give Spain its first World Cup.
Third Time Lucky
After losing the World Cup field hockey finals consecutively in 2002 and 2006 to Germany, Australia got lucky in 2010 and defeated the Germans, 2-1 in the World Cup final held in New Delhi.
Vettel Becomes the Youngest To Win F1
Sebastian Vettel won the 2010 championship and became the world champion, the youngest ever. Along with teammate Mark Webber, he helped Red Bull win the World's Constructor Championship.
Lee Westwood Becomes World No. 1 over Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods, on October 31, 2010, lost his No. 1 position to Lee Westwood.
Spot Fixing Scandal: Amir, Asif and Butt Suspended
The fourth test match between Pakistan and England was underway at Lords. Pakistan was in a vulnerable position, facing a humiliating defeat, when infamous British tabloid News of the World claimed that the matches between Pakistan and England were fixed and alleged Pakistan players Salman Butt, Asif and Amir were involved in it.
Inter Milan Becomes Champion of Europe
Inter Milan for many years was winning and gaining success domestically, but many people including myself used to believe the only way they can be victorious in Europe was by winning in the Europa League.
But the special one proved us wrong and defeated Bayern Munich to win the Champions League.
England beat Australia to win World Twenty20 title
England secured their first victory at an ICC limited-overs tournament with a crushing seven-wicket win against Australia in the World Twenty20 final.
Europe Win In Thrilling Finish:Ryder Cup 2010
US Open champion McDowell's 3&1 victory over Hunter Mahan gave Europe a dramatic 14 1/2 to 13 1/2 triumph over the United States to regain the trophy.
Lakers Defeated Celtics To Win 16th Tittle
Lakers 16th NBA championship was secured following a gritty 83-79 victory over the Celtics in game 7 of the NBA Finals.
Super Kings Win Fourth Edition Of IPL
The final match of IPL 2010 between Chennai Super Kings and. Mumbai Indians was played on 25 April 2010 at the DY Patil Stadium. M S Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat. Chennai Super Kings scored 168 for 5 at the end of 20 Overs. Mumbai Indians scored 146 for 9 at the end of 20 overs and hence lost the match by 22 runs. So,Chennai won their first IPL tittle.

Chennai with help from spinners restricted South-African side Warriors to 128 which the Chennai team achieved with 8 wickets in hand.
Chelsea win English Premier League
As well as denying United what would have been an unprecedented fourth consecutive title, the stunning display ensured Carlo Ancelotti's first season in charge ends with the league trophy back in west London for the first time since Jose Mourinho masterminded back-to-back triumphs in 2004-05 and 2005-06.
Nadal Dominates The Year
During a dominant season, the 24-year-old Spaniard wrested back the number one ranking from Federer, and racked up seven titles, including a record-breaking 18th Masters Series win. With an Olympic singles gold and two Davis Cup titles already in the bag, Nadal is fast running out of major prizes to win.Nadal won three grand-slams that are U.S Open preceded by Wimbeldon and French Open.
San Fransisco Giants Win 2010 World Series
Major League Baseball’s 2010 World Series was played between the San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers, and the Giants ultimately defeated the Rangers in the Rangers’ home field in Arlington.The best of seven series was won by Giants by the score of 4-1.
Winter Olympics:USA Tops The Table
2010 Winter Olympics were held in the Canadian city of Vancover from Feburary 12 to 28.In 86 events 2,600 athletes participated from 82 nations.U.S.A topped the table with 9 gold,15 silver and 13 bronze followed by Germany (10 gold,13 silver and 7 bronze) and Canada(14 gold 7 silver and 5 bronze)
