Here is an interesting twist in the Shanahan/Denver Broncos saga: Denver ships Orton to D.C. for Donovan McNabb.
I'm not even going to try and get into who else would be coming or going in terms of players or draft picks, as that is dependent upon which quarterback you feel actually has more value; although, I will offer one more suggestion...
McNabb and the grumpy Haynesworth for Orton and our first second round pick—after all, we are (PLEASE GOD, PLEASE) using these first three picks for defense, right?
Let me be the first to say that I hate the idea, mainly because Haynesworth is the biggest baby I've ever seen this side of Chicago, and I don't think he will ever produce as much as he used to before he got his mega contract.
Secondly, we do have two second round picks, so regardless of what we do with our first rounder that 2nd pick could also be used on a DE/DT to go with Haynesworth, assuming he was happy enough to show up to camp in shape.
Third, isn't Tim Tebow just a lighter version of Donovan McNabb? I wouldn't call him a run first quarterback, but he definitely has the ability to scramble when need be. The guy is a winner regardless of how the situation in D.C. came to be. Anyone that knows anything about Shanny knows he is a power hungry control freak, and benching McNabb in the 2-minute drill was the beginning of the end.
If Tebow proves in these next few games that he is, in fact, not ready to take the reigns, but is clearly the future, who better to mentor him than McNabb? Surely the answer is not Kyle Orton. As long as Denver's line is going to be this shaky, we might as well have a mobile quarterback under center.
Imagine if Haynesworth returned to form and our first round pick (possibly Dareus or Bowers) lining up with him AND a healthy Dumervil—that has to instantly turn some heads.
The last thing I want to see is Tim Tebow turn into Alex Smith. I don't think there is even a remote chance of that, but the possibility is always out there.
What do you think, Bronco Nation?
