Blatter continues to be under fire for comments

Sepp Blatter is facing criticism (surprise!) for recent comments made about homosexuals and what they should do if they attend the Qatar World Cup in 2022.

For those of you who do not know, Blatter made a statement during an interview at an event in South Africa for the Post Legacy Project.  He was asked whether there would be any possible cultural problems that could happen.

He responded with, "I'd say they [gay fans] should refrain from any sexual activities."

Now he is facing an angry backlash from the LGBT Community and human rights groups.

But the question now becomes, should he actually apologize? My Answer: NO.

Why does he need to apologize for stating facts?  In Qatar and in similar other Middle Eastern countries there are rules that actually criminalize homosexual relationships and in some cases they can be punished by death.

Now, whether Qatar is violating human rights is a completely different matter that should be dealt with another day.  But for now it does not make sense for Blatter to have to apologize for saying that people needs to follow the rules of the host country.

Although some will point out then why Qatar was chosen in the first place but that is also another debate and one where most people will not get over it until 2022.

But the fact of the matter at hand is that people need to respect the host country's rules whether they are fair or not.  Everyone respected China's rules while they were in China in 2008 despite all the human rights violations that go on.

So why should Blatter apologize exactly?  He is not going to piss off the host country by saying something like "they should engage openly in sexual activities."  He could have simply said "no", but then he would be lying because if homosexuals do get caught in sexual activities it would be very bad news for them.

Maybe someone can help me out here but whenever I go to a foreign country, I make sure I follow and respect the rules of the country.

If you care to disagree then feel free to add your comments to the board, I am interested in what everyone has to say!
