NHL Trade Rumours: Are Mike Komisarek and Francois Beauchemin on the Move?
According to Bruce Garrioch of The Ottawa Sun, Ray Emery is working hard to return from hip surgery. In a few weeks he will skate with an OHL team and then work his way up to the AHL on a 25 game pro tryout. It is likely he completes the tryout before any NHL team takes a chance on him.
Lots of goaltenders have gotten injured, or probably will, as one injury is all it takes to devastate a team. So it is likely that a team will take a chance by signing Emery.
The Dallas Stars' lenders are unlikely to give the team the money they need to re-sign Brad Richards. The Rangers are said to be the team with the highest interest because the Leafs are falling out of playoff contention.
Don't be shocked if Brian Burke adds Richards even if his team is falling out of contention. He does not let the standings dictate whether or not he makes a trade (eg. the Phil Kessel trade).
The Atlanta Thrashers are starting to work out a long term contract extension with their captain Andrew Ladd.
They need to keep him, and since he is an RFA, he does not have much of a choice.
The Phoenix Coyotes still have not talked to Ilya Bryzgalov about a contract extension.
This is crazy. I don't understand why they have not begun discussing an extension. They need to at least set the parameters. My only guess is that they think he will take a lot less money in free agency because of the market last year.
Will Mike Komisarek or Francois Beauchemin be traded?
The New York Rangers are trying to move Scott Gomez but have not received much interest because of his huge cap hit ($7.357 million).
I was amazed that the Canadiens went after him. The contract seemed immovable to me.
The Montreal Canadiens are trying to get bigger forwards.
This should be obvious to everyone. Last year everyone was making jokes that the Canadiens had midgets for forwards.
The Buffalo Sabres are trying to move captain Craig Rivet who has been a healthy scratch six times this year.
Why is he still the captain? What kind of a captain becomes a healthy scratch? And it looks like he's not even a hell of a leader, otherwise the Sabres would not just deal him.
Garrioch also believes that Kevin Bieksa would be an excellent fit in Ottawa.
This is an excellent idea. Bieksa would replace Anton Volchenkov. The Senators tried to replace him with Sergei Gonchar for some reason and that has not exactly worked out.
Garrioch also thinks the St. Louis Blues would be interested in Brian Lee as a reclamation project, just like Carlo Colaiacovo.
Will Francois Beauchemin be traded?
As well as the Colaiacovo trade worked out for the Blues, they don't need to take a chance on Lee. He doesn't offer much upside.
Garrioch also reports that the Toronto Maple Leafs are trying to move Mike Komisarek and/or Francois Beauchemin for a forward. Other teams don't want Komisarek because of his cap hit.
As Dion Phaneuf returns soon this makes sense because the Leafs need forward help and will have an extra defenceman or two to move. As for Komisarek, as the trade deadline approaches, some team may think no other trade will work because of salary cap constraints and may be forced to take him. However, I think it more likely that Beauchemin is moved.
