Randy Edsell To Coach The Canes?

Dee CollierDec 2, 2010

UConn's Randy Edsall has established himself as an elite head coach at the collegiate level.

After leading UConn from the Atlantic-10 conference when hired in 1999, through 1-A independent status and joining the Big East in 2004, his win totals increased every year from 2001 to 2003.

Five bowls in the last seven years, including four appearances in a row, he's proved his worth.

With 32 wins in the last four years, he averages eight a season for the once bottom-dwelling Huskies.

He has also established himself as a coach capable of turning his players into legitimate NFL prospects.

Besides, Edsall is already a well known name on the South Florida recruiting circuit.

Cody Brown and Darius Butler were both pulled out of South Florida by Edsall and molded into NFL studs at Connecticut.

It is also no secret in the South Florida region that Edsall is a mentor, and not just a coach, to his players.

After the loss of Jasper Howard at the beginning of last season, Edsall spent a lot of his time comforting Howard's family and friends.

Players take notice of that and he's the type of coach that player's dream of playing for.

Edsall already has the respect needed to recruit successfully around the U.

Edsall would be an ideal fit for the struggling 'Canes.

You can guarantee Edsall's name is on the top of the "Wish List" at Miami.
