Alabama Is For Real - USC Looks Unstoppable; And Other Thoughts After Week One
What have we learned so far after the first full day of college football?
1. The SEC looks very strong. This premier league is going to be a major meat grinder this season. Not that it's not normally...but after watching Georgia, Florida, LSU, Alabama, and Auburn; they all look very tough. Yeah Yeah...I know they all didn't play super tough teams but hey!...except for Alabama...they all played cream puffs.
2. USC is awesome. So Cal may be the best team on the planet right now. They look very dangerous. Pete Carrol's team looks like they're on a mission. That spells trouble for whoever is in their path. As much as I hope they don't...USC may breeze to the national title game in Miami.
3. Alabama is for real. Forget about them not being in contention this year in the SEC. They made Clemson look like a mid-major. I'm not a major Nick Saban fan, but props to him for getting his team up for a bowl-like game in the ATL. Roll Tide!
4. Clemson is super overated. See point #5
5. The ACC sucks! Sorry ACC fan - your teams look pretty bad. Your conference teams were really exposed for not being too tough. It looks to be a long season for you guys. Coach Bowden looked disgusted and bewildered after Alabama demolished them. It looked like he was ready to cry.
6. Rich Rodriquez has a long road to hoe. Michigan dropping their game to Utah was not a good way to begin the new coaches reign in Ann Arbor. I can guarantee West Virgina Fan was beside themselves today.
7. Dave Wannstedt, Pitts Coach is officially on the hot seat after their loss today to Bowling Green. Not that the nation is all that concerned but losing to BGSU is a sure fire way to get put out in the pasture.
8. Ohio State's "Beanie" Wells Heisman hopes went down the tubes today. Ohio State has depth at running back so there shouldn't be too big of a drop off, but although it's being reported that x-rays are negative; he may not be ready for the big show down against USC which will almost keep him out of contention. Too bad - I was hoping to see him in So Cal in a few weeks.
9. Joe Pa is one really great guy. I know Joe Paterno has taken some heat for being too old for the game - that he should look to step down sometime in the near future. I hope he stay's as long as he wants to. He doen't get the props he deserves. What a class act. Unfortunately, it might take him not being around anymore until his legacy is fully appreciated and revered.
10. Today's games are bitter sweet. Sweet because it's college football - bitter because Gustav looks to remind the Gulf South that life is fragile. May we all pray for God's Grace.
