WWE Feels Like It Is Missing Something

Brandon WarnesAug 30, 2008

I've been enjoying the WWE for years now and have constantly tuned into Raw and Smackdown each week. The last couple of months have felt strange to me and I can't really understand why.

Raw has tons of potential with top tier guys all over the place, but it feels like a mess right now.

We have guys like JBL main-eventing and always challenging CM Punk for the title, and that should not be happening. At the draft, Raw got some good guys and I was very pleased with how they did but WWE writers aren't writing convincing matches or rivalries, I find and many guys are left without matches most nights.

Smackdown is pretty much the same way—just look at the Scramble match taking place at Unforgiven. Shelton Benjamin, MVP, The Brian Kendrick? These guys have a lot of upside, but they should not be main-eventing right now, not this early. Let them develop into solid mid-card performers instead of rushing things.

HHH is the champ on Smackdown, and he is in a dull feud with The Great Khali. Khali can't wrestle if his life depended on it—HHH needs something better out of Smackdown and it just isn't happening.

Two feuds that have gone well, though, as of late are Jericho vs. HBK and Undertaker vs. Edge. In Jericho and Edge, you get two young heels who are very gifted, and in HBK and Undertaker you get two great legends and future hall of famers. Aside from those two rivalries, though, the rest of those shows end up feeling dull to me.

Maybe once Orton and Cena come back to Raw and Edge comes back on TV, things will change. A solution could be merging Smackdown and Raw back together while still doing two shows like they did when Smackdown was first starting out. Or maybe blow up ECW and spread out the wrestlers to add more depth to the roster.

Whatever the case, I can't help but feeling this empty feeling when watching both Smackdown and Raw. While certain spots are entertaining and thought-provoking, it just feels like Raw and Smackdown are missing something.
