Vancouver Canucks Buzz: Roberto Luongo Should Be Removed or Traded

Joseph TrentonNov 20, 2010

I understand this may sound bizarre, and you may see me as a Canucks band wagoner, but I have followed Luongo long enough to tell you that what you see is what you get with Roberto Luongo. He won't impress you any further with ice-time, with more games, or with more potent defense playing in front of him.

The time is now for the Vancouver Canucks in terms of winning the Stanley Cup. However, it is easier said than done when it comes to winning their way to the Cup Finals.

Saturday, the Canucks faced a team that won the Stanley Cup a few months ago that missed several key pieces that battled together for that trophy, they missed their new starting netminder who was sitting on the bench the entire 60 minutes here in Vancouver. Also, the Blackhawks played the night before, posting a 7-2 drilling by the Calgary Flames.

If you take everything into consideration, the Canucks let the rabbit out of the hat Saturday. The team was rested, and at home finally. But the play of their goaltender Luongo really troubles the Canucks. Roberto gave up four goals on 10 shots in the middle frame. People generally like to go back and rewind to the scoring highlights to see what happened, but fans should be noted, this slump is a regular occurrence with Luongo.

Goaltending can change the dynamics of a game when you don't have it. When the goalie stands on his head, it also can play an impact on the opposing forward's heads. Roberto is not scaring anybody. Troy Brouwer of Surrey walked in today so confident and Luongo make him appear like a hockey star. Brouwer sniped it home and celebrated with his teammates with family and friends watching. Good for Brouwer, bad for the Canucks.

I say this once again, if the Canucks wants to win the Stanley Cup anytime soon, they need a shake-up in goal.
